104.9 (forename) Xfm Breakfast Show with (middle name) Alex Zane (surname). He's done it for a competition on the XFM breakfast show there running

It's not a name i would like to take!

"Anthony Millar, had an idea, he wanted to change his name to 'Xfm Breakfast Show'. He's a policeman so legally he couldn't. So he volunteered his friend to do it - he jumped at the chance . His name was Ryan Carol and is now officially '104.9 (forename) Xfm Breakfast Show with (middle name) Alex Zane (surname)'. His girlfriend isn't happy."

You can view the offical deeds and listen to the call to the radio station from ryan and anthony (http://www.xfm.co.uk/Article.asp?id=499543) - number 6

please could you post this about as i would like to see ryan win, his idea is much better than the other entries on there :p

Classic!
'Did you tell your family about this?'

'No, I just did it and told them after' Imagine their faces when they found out!:D

I'm 100% you're not allowed to have numbers in your name, let alone a full stop.

And sorry to be a grammar Nazi...

"there" should be "they're"

your allowed funny names though
"your" should be "you're"

That is all :p

It's also not true. You can't have numbers in your name.

Just looking at the "deeds", it is just a website that makes official looking templates!

You can't have numbers in your name, especially starting you name.

Also, if it is done through deed poll, they can reject the change. E.g. "Adolf Hitler" would get rejected.

What else is left to be said other than the OP's friend is a liar?

Not entirely accurate.

You have to follow those rules ONLY if you change your name via deed poll. However you don't need to change your name via deed poll, you can just change it. It even says on that site "there are no laws in the United Kingdom relating to unsuitable names".

Of course if you don't change your name via deed poll you will have a bugger of a time getting it recognised by a bank etc. However you are legally allowed to change your name to whatever you like as long as it isn't for reasons to defraud.

Yup. But you can't change your driver's license or pastport with a name unapproved by deed poll (you don't have to pay them, a sollictor can do it).

Trust me, a mate at uni tried changing his name to "R2D2 THE-SECOND".

Yeah but that counts for about as much as me saying "I officially declare my name to be William the Conqueror."

On behalf of XFM, that's actually very clever marketing ;)

When are we going to see an OcUK version of this? :p
