I'm not sure if these threads are allowed, if not just let me know.

One of my mates who moved to Australia a while back received a serious head injury while playing football on Sunday and is currently in the ICU in an induced coma. They are collecting donations for his medical bills and rehabilitation costs here:

If you are able to donate anything that would be great as it seems like the costs are really going to stack up and we want him to have the best chance of getting through this

Sorry to hear about your friend, I hope he makes it through this. I'm not however going to donate anything - he should have got insurance... presumably treatment will cost a 5 figure sum... his family should cover this not random strangers and he should pay back his family. The source of funds should be a bank loan or similar not begging for donations.

@op did he have travel insurance? If he did, is it invalid or will it not cover his medical bills for some reason? There's no mention of it on the page that's set up to beg for money.

Doubt people here stop at beggers on the street and tell them what they should / shouldn't have done in life. If this is no different to some then why feel the need to reply?

Nah it's fair comment - just take a loan out... you'll earn over a million in your lifetime so what's a 10k hit in the grand scheme of things.

This is General Discussion, people are entitled to their opinions. If the only comments were from those that appeased the OP you'd be left with a very skewed overall opinion.
