I currently have:

Q6600 @ Stock
Asus P5N-E SLi
Artic Freezer Pro
2 GB Patriot CL4 DDR2 + 4 GB Elixir cheap DDR2
NZXT Lexa (Silver front)
Gainward GTX 460 GLH 1GB
X-Fi Fatal1ty Pro
600W Ocz Silent PSU

I've had issues overclocking the board and I now know it's not the greatest mobo in the world to OC. Coupled with the poor Elixir memory.
I'm going to be upgrading some bits such as case and CPU cooler anyway, so figured I'd wait until after Xmas and get something new.
This is what I have in mind.

Coolermaster Dominator case (I'll get Green LED fans in it too to match the nvidia version)
Asus Maximus III GENE
i5 760 (Quad core still, which I want to keep)
2 x 4GB Sticks of Corsair Dominator 1600 DDR3
CoolIT Eco A.L.C. CPU Watercooler
The rest I'll keep the same. I may even get another identical 460 in the future and SLI them.

So, what do you think? I'm not made of money, so I'm looking for good price ratio and looking to get a decent OC from it.

It seems a good idea. 4gb RAM is perfectly fine, i5 760 is nice as i5's are as good as i7s for gaming and such and the cooler will give you some nice overclocks. The GTX460 is good too, SLI it eventually and that seems like a nice rig. Maybe you should get corsair XMS3 memory though as i think its cheaper and has no difference i know of.

If you are going to wait until after Xmas, wait a little while longer & see what Intel has to release to market in the New year (shortly before CES in Las Vegas) which is its 'Sandy Bridge' generation of CPU's.

You will always have issues overclocking while using non paired memory, you would probably be better off not using the 2gb patriot and sticking with the 4gb of cheap elixir and trying to clock with that.

Sure a i5 is faster than a q6600, but i'm amazed you can not get a small oc from that q6600

It would be 2 4GB Sticks, so 8gb in total. This should leave me room to get another 2 x 4GB sticks in the future if I want to upgrade.

I may just do that. Thanks for the advise.

If I drop to 4gb again, I can use all PATRIOT. I used to have 4GB of the patriot stuff, but at the time did not plan on OCing so went for the extra 2gb.
I have managed to get a small OC but after a while it fails. I have a couple of threads on here where people have tried to help me, but after trying several different methods and fixes, I've decided to leave it and wait till I get a new set up. I get to do some OCing at work anyway, so that will satisfy my needs to OC! xD
