Some of the items i have got from a friend, and the rest im buying off overclockers. Is there anything i should change on that system? Would I need a cooler etc? What would you's be unhappy with on this system.
Thanks in advance

I think your CPU might hold your graphics card back unless your going to overclock quite a bit, so either get a faster CPU or buy a third party cooler to help you acheive a higher overclock. Also I think the X-Fi cards are not to good on vista? I could be wrong though.

If just gaming and a little school work, maybe you will be better of going for an E8400,8500 or 8600 and overclock them some more. 4870x2 is a beast though you must have a big monitor :)

petemyster remove the competitor link before a mods sees!!!

Only thing I might change is the Q6600 to a dual core E8400.

Well personally i would keep the quad core as only more things will start using quad core and will last longer, and also overclock.
Also the 4870X2 abit extreme for a 22" you can easily get away with a 4870 or 280 depending how flush your feeling!
Also if im correct, unless you really need the extra features of the Deluxe, i would save some pennies and get the p5q-e.
Also change to a modular PSU such as the Corsair 620.
And i think a lot of the people had problems with the X-Fi's, and would suggest gettsing the Asus Sonar thingy ma bob.

yea, though this computer has to last me as long as possible without an upgrade, and the 4870x2 has more memory than the 280 for more or less the same price, so I think it'll last the longest.

Unfortunately, memory doesnt make the power of the card. :p For example a 1gb 9500GT is a lot slower than a 256mb 8800GT ;) Memory only really comes into play at high resolution, 22'' isnt massive though 512 would be enough tbh.

i agree with the sonar comment. but why change to a modular psu? I always thought that they were better, but I have gone from a modular psu to a normal one, and actually my cable management is better - it was really easy to install, and to top it all off, it was much cheaper.

also agree with the p5q-e recommendation - i have one and it is a very nice board.

i'd go to a 4870 too, the x2 is quite a bit more expensive and you won't see the benefit on a 22" monitor.

I have a corsair 650W non-modular and it is a very good psu - quiet and powerful.

I'd go with a dual core though, I was thinking a quad too, but games are fine with a nicely clocked dual core. Might even go for a cheap dual core and clock it, then upgrade next time slightly sooner than you normally would and get one of the new intel cpus :D

Spec looks good. For gaming a faster dual core would be my choice too, like the E8400. Though if doing video encoding and other such work the quad will be a good choice.

The 4870 is the fastest card on the planet at the moment so if you want a card that will last you the longest, then thats definitely a great choice. Besides it will play anything you throw at it.:)

yea, im thinking though in 4 years time where the 4870x2 would be a decent graphics card, and would struggle to hold its own against modern games. That's the only reason why I choose the 4870x2 over the GTX280. The 4870x2 SHOULD last longer, but not by that much, and performe better than it in the future.
