Upgrade if your games/applcations are struggling. If they are not struggling, keep your money.

Conroe is faster clock for clock, clocks a lot higher and is dual core.

Basically its a very good CPU, but your FX-57 will be more than plenty for the time being.

FX57 is still a very fast CPU..

People generally don't upgrade there CPU as often as they do there GPU, as the gains to be made are not as visually noticeable. A new GPU will often double the speed of the last, which is why people fall over themselves to upgrade to it.

The reason there is so much hype and excitement surrounding the release of the Conroe is due to the massive speed increase and that is largely down to the way it crunches numbers.

The Conroe calculates 4 instructions per clock cycle rather than 3, hence while the E6600 is running @ clocks of 2.4GHz the same speed as the FX57, it is calculating 33% more efficently.

There are ofcoarse other features that have been introduced by Intel that have added to this speed increase that you can read about here

The only reason to upgrade to the Conroe at this point would be if there were several items along with the processor that you wanted to upgrade. For someone like me I think it would be futile at the point. I will be building my system based on the G80 or R600 and my choice of CPU will at that point definately be a Conroe...... or a Kentfield :D.. or a K8L who know's...

just sit back and relax that FX-57 is still mighty :D

hold out for the new AMD Plus DX10 combo your cpu will be fine untill then, in fact be fine for sometime :)

Im waiting also. I wouldnt change yet if i had a FX57. Id wait untill around Xmas time then if you do upgrade your have a nice little present for yourself.hehe
