So my card died (fried to be exact)

Its the first component Ive actually killed through clocking so I guess I just popped my burnout cherry :D

I now need a replacement card and I've been hunting around on the MM for a bargain. I'm not sure what to buy really though (not been keeping up to date). A brief scan shows the 8800 as new leaders right? I was looking at a used 1900xtx 512mb or perhaps a 1950 256mb, how do these two cards compare? Would it be worth forking out an extra £80 - £100 for the BFG 8800 OCUK have on offer right now?

My current setup - DFI lanparty, 146opty @ 3ghz, 2gb gskill.

Ta :D

The card will run fine on XP but DX10 is exclusive to Vista I'm afraid.

Ah, so I will have to install it with DX9 on XP and if I wish to install DX10 later I will have to upgrade to Vista? Well I was intending on purchasing a copy of vista soon anyway :)

I best get up to date with recent developments eh? :D

is the card still under warranty ? can you get away with RMAing it ?

Overclocking card till it fries = No more warranty :(

they have to prove that's what happened. if there's no markings on the card and you still have the stock cooler you should be able to get it replaced.

i agree with that too. as its been fried, I don't think there is any way of proving what the clock speed or memory speed was prior to it dying if the actual graphics core is completely shot
