ok so, i was running my amd 6950 originaly all fine. then i sold it and removed all drivers from control panel uninstall and used driver sweeper then installed my old nvidia gts 250 and did nvidia drivers. also ran fine with no problems.
then i did the same today when i swaped the cards over for my new his ice q boost 7950, control panel uninstalled the drivers then did driver sweeper and installed amd drivers,
but the problem is my games keep randomly locking up and then the screen goes black for a few seconds and then switches the game back on which is laggy and then it runs fine again until it locks up again!
does anyone know what problem could be?i hardly doubt its my psu playing up as its only a few months old
i overclocked the card the card a little bit when i first put it in and now i have it all stock and the same problems
any ideas?

Bump up the volts a little. It sounds like the black screen is doing the "Driver has stopped responding and has recovered" error in the back ground. You can check if this is the case by checking your event viewer.

actually yes it did say that once..how do i check event viewer?im using windows 7
edit. no worries found it..
is it ok to use msi after burner if im overclocking?

Sure is. That is sure to be volts are too low (even if it is stock). Untick the voltage control and add a little. Should be good to go from there :)

Yes bud. This is probably a good time to find your overclock that is 24/7 stable as well. I am not good on overclocking AMD GPU's because they are poo and smell of stale wee but plenty of guys will help you :p

Just to make sure all is ok though, hit the 20% boost thingy and put the volts to something like 1.2 and run heaven 3.0 for a few runs on max settings. Keep an eye on temps and fingers crossed, all will go well.

ok this is the error i am still getting
Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered.
its really bugging me now as the card is new
any ideas?

Can you reinstall your OS?
There might be something left over from Nvidia in your registry that driver sweeper is not finding.

Reinstall windows and run everything as is for a while, (no MSI Afterburner / I-Turbo)

PS: update your Motherboard BIOS if there is a newer one.

thanx humbug! thats what i think the problem was. in the end my pc wouldnt even load windows it kept bsod at start up so i went into safe mode and did a system restore
think it might of fixed it. if it hasnt i will be reinstalling windows
thanx again
edit. im running the newest bios:p
