My Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 is half dead. What to replace it with?

As per title my Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 is dying. the Sata 2 chip that controls RAID and IDE is dead, for whatever reason I can boot off a live CD but not successfully install Linux or windows.

All my hard disks (1IDE +3 SATA) work in other computers, so I've narrowed the problem down to the Gigabyte Sata2 controller (the Intel SATA controller seems fine).

Long story short, I need a replacement MB. Ideally i'd like that same board again, but I can't seem to source one. Anybody know where I might go?

I've not been keeping up with MBs these days, what would an ideal replacement be? Current Cpu is an E6300 @3.0ghz with 4 sticks of 800mhz (or is that 400mhz?) RAM.

Do you need the RAID? I would be tempted to just leave it myself.
Is it also enabled in the BIOS?
I have the same mobo, never used the Gigabyte ports. Then again, all my storage is on a WHS.

Thats not quite the problem. All the IDE channels are dead, but the motherboard and Bios doesn't know this. So it hangs the system looking for a working drive on the ide channels i suspect. It will boot of a Sata cd, but not past the bootloader (grub etc) on a Harddisk.

The problem is probably more extensive than this (the gigabyte Sata2 chip seems to handle many other things too) I'm just observing the symptoms.

Fair enough, I would just plump for a bsic board tbh. Are you planning to upgrade to i3/i5/i7 at any point in the near future?

i've just installed a asus p5q pro turbo and seems a great board so far. stable at 500 fsb - unstable at 517fb - not tried between
overclocking is a doddle on it

that is using an e8400

there weren't that many p45 boards left out there at the shops I use. I did originally get the giga ep45-ud3lr but it was DOA so is going back for a RMA
