... rubbish!

Since day one (december 23rd 2008) it's been pretty unstable. Even at stock. Apparenlty it couldn't handle the 8gb ram I had in it with default settings and even now after much research it still hangs, crashes, or spends the first 20 minutes of a boot up restarting itself!!

Can anyone recommend a P45 motherboard which will support 8gb ram, q6600, and a 4870?

cheers...

I've just got a DS4 version and it seems to be ok with 8GB RAM, Q6600 and 4850. It's only running at 3.0 at the moment but once I eventually get home from Kuala Lumpur I'll be pushing it a bit harder

You tried flashing the BIOS, you should complain to gigabyte, you might get something out of them. Im guessing you do not want to go with them again, so look at maybe asus p45 boards.

Have you tried memtest on the ram, is it running at its correct voltage and is of same kind, don't really see why there should be a problem, it is harder to overclock with 8GB but should be stable on stock. Good luck.

I've tried every version of the bios that been available and now running 10a. I've been onto the gigabyte forums and gone through it with them. I don't get much time to sit down and fiddle with the settings but it's getting to the point where the machine isn't useable now. I've removed 4 gb of ram today and it's now booting again, however it's still going through it's restart process about 10 times before it gets into windows.

I've had asus boards before which were fine, can't for the life of me remember why I when with GB! lol.

Have you tried the board with a different power supply, but thinking about it if you've had these problems for a year then it probably isn't the problem.

I've had a problem with an asus board and I thought then, "can't for the life of me remember why I went with" Asus.

OCuK seem to be running out of p45 boards as a fast rate, you've only really got 2 choices.

If you have the time it might be worth calling, if not ditch it and buy a new one if you don't want the hassle, Im not motherboard expert, especially when it comes to one needed for 8GB. Also any other features that are needed?

I previously used a Asus P5Q Pro P45 board. It was a really good solid board. I used the Q6600 ( briefly ) before using the Q9550 on it. Had the same 8GB memory and a 4870 GPU worked a treat.

Only problem being this was when they were readily available. Now you might have to pay a premium and i cant really recommend doing that on something that is deemed old tech now.

Check around , for a good price.

cheers chaps. I'm going to try and have another go at getting it sorted, if not then it's either a quick purchase here or else trying MM or the bay.
