hi. i just bought a new setup its a celeron D 3.06Ghz and asus p5gl-mx mobo with some cheap ram i had lying arround and windows installs fine... BUT

when running different apps or running NOTHING windows will either SHUT DOWN, STOP ERROR, RESTART and loads of other stupid things... anyone know why this is?

ive tried with 3 different verisons of windows

Windows XP Home Edition
Windows XP Pro SP1
Windows XP Pro SP2

HELP!!!!

i had a similar thing with some cheap read me RAM off ebay that said it was 1gig but was actually 512MB and i suspect was DDR333 as i clocked back to 400MHz and it still fudged up. This i believe was due to mixing cheap god knows what ram and half decent Corsair value select PC3200. Is the memeroy identicle modules or mix and match?

Either way i think this can be written away to a hardware issue. It's either overeating or lack of voltage/stability in memory.

thanks so much. ive tried 2 different sticks of memory and it does the same thing.. somtimes it will work for about 21 hours converting films other times it get to windows logon screen and gives up... over heating???

overheating or undervolting.
If the core voltage for RAM or CPU is too low it'll have similar effects. Tho Stop errors normallly mean RAM. make sure your FSB is nice and low and your clock speed is down around 1.5GHz, then see how it goes.
