Hi lads!

Just attempted to play HL2 and CSS but loads of weird things were happening with the graphics. When i got outside on HL2, everywhere looked crazy - green boxes and like sharp objects which i think are called artifacts.

Does this mean my gfx card is going to/has died?

Thing is, its never done it before ya see so i dont think it would be a driver issue.

My card is an sapphire radeon x800 GTO2 Ltd edition and how would i know the temps? :p

uninstall your drivers then use driver cleaner pro to delete any traces of them then reinstall DIFFERENT drivers just to be sure...when i say different i mean a different version but ones that support your card.

if still no luck then its probably bad memory or overheating......you could also pull the card out and clean it ..see if it helps.

oh also make sure you have the latest version of direct X.

I had a similar thing on my X850 XT in the stress test. Just reduce some of the filtering and AA. Seems it has problems on some resoloutions with some A and AF, give it a go. i had to drop down from 6 x AF to 4 and it fixed it.

Seems normal, using some sorts of AA/AF give it with all cards, got it with my 8800, X800 and now 2900.

Its doing it in bf2 though, it was fine in bf2 and css until the other day - so im quite sure it isnt a driver issue. Unless the drivers can magically (not taking the mick here, being serious! ;)) change just like that?

Right, ive uninstalled all the drivers, used driver clean pro to remove it proper.

The graphics are still showing artifacts....

Hmmm, im going to have to remove it and clean it - that a good idea?

Right ive cleared most of the dust out the machine.

Took the gfx card out, and removed 2 cards that was in the way of the fan - a tv tuner, which i never use, and a 56k modem that i never use.

Thought it would be a good idea to let the gfx card get more air to it, but it still making artifacts when i play a game...

Is there anything else i can do or do i have to admit defeat? :(

Sorry for the millionth post in a row - but i cant play games unless i get it sorted!! :p

So, is it dead then? Or can someone give me some tips on how to get this beast working again? :)

Please help me lol ;)

Have you tried removing the heatsink on the gfx card, clean off the gunk, then reapply some thermal compound and try it again. May sort it...
