My graphics are looking funky...

No i havnt and wouldnt know where to start tbh.

Which thermal paste would be the most suitable that i can buy from overclockers?

Also, why might this work? Its not a driver issue, thats been ruled out - so whats causing the artifacting?

I think that it's safe to say that your card has had it to be honest.

Ok if it has had it, then how can i still play the game?

When i say play the game, i mean barely - EXTREMELY barely...

What im getting at is, wouldnt the card stop working altogether, and wouldnt there be a way to get rid of the artifacting?

If another person tells me my card is knackered then ill submit, cry, and cry some more...

sounds knackered. i've had cards do similar things (radeon 9800's used to do this after about 8 months)

get a new one dood!

Nah it's not really a case of that. There's two forms of knackered with a graphics card: -

1.) It's completely knackered, your PC won't boot with a display at all. If it even POSTs.*

2.) It's got artifacts. Like cancer, if caught early, artifacts can be treated by making sure all the cooling system and the clock speeds are fine. You seem to have done this, which probably means it's in the later stages. The artifacts are permanent and will most likely show up in every single 3D application you run, until they start appearing on the desktop too, rendering the card pretty useless.

I know it's bad news and not what you wanted to hear, especially since the GTO² was such an awesome card at the time and is still going strong today, but I am afraid that I think it's had it now. :(

*The black DOS screen on boot.

have you tried the card with any other games(other than bf2) ? i know its a common problem with css that graphical glitches can occur simply by the detail level selected....has happened to me with a few different cards over time.

anyway in the past(real long time ago) i remember when some of the memory on my card went bad it showed glitches n crap on high res & detail....but it worked fine on lower settings...maybe you could try on the lowest graphics settings so that the bad memory on the card may not get used.

its a wild shot but worth a try.

also did you try updating dx9 ?

Try underclocking your card. It may only be "partially expired". In the good old days I had a Geforce4 TI4200 which gradually went down hill. At first it would overclock like a monster but I had to slowly decrease speeds until it was operating below stock to keep the gremlins away.
