I bought the HIS3870x2 Christmas 2007 12month warranty which was fine until a couple of days ago my screen went into tiny little squares and then shut down with a message on screen reporting a driver issue from what i could make out as it was hard to read have checked cables and made sure it has power and the fan does turn but not very fast,
The main problem i have is i cant check for driver issues with no screen and since my M,board only supports pci express Graphics cards,So far i have eliminated the Monitor/lead as the problem as it works on my other Pc,ive also removed the 3870 and gave it a clean since i dont game very much it has hardly been stressed neither has it been clocked surly they should last a few years instead of keeling over just outside the warranty any one haerd of any problems with these cards HELP much appreciated thanks:):)

I have read on the ATI website that some cards run very hot well into the 90s running at only 30% leaving some people no choice but to run third party software such as riva tuner to speed up the fan .. maybe mine has burnt out for sure:(

its properly just gave up due to age and that high heat it likes runining at.

and your out of luck I m affired for warrenty as you stated it only has 12 months...

so new card time :(

imho its not right nor fair from nvidia ati intel or anyone.

my 8800 gtx cost me £350 2 years and 2 months ago and died last week.a little dusty on the pcb side but it was kept cool and never went above 75c.

thats like a ps3 going boom.id be ****ed and i think under5 years for anitem that expensive is classed as a failure and if you used small claims court you would hands down win.

Ok sorry to hear about your card but if you bought your card when you say "Christmas 2008" with a 12 month warranty then its still in warranty last time i check its only june 2009 ;)

Have you cleared all the dust from the heatsink/fan assembly?
Its spotless no burn marks at all have had the heatsink off to reveal both GPUs both have very generous amounts of Thermal paste and again no sign of heat damage at all,put it back together and for the first time it posted with a full screen then after only a minute the screen went into blured coloured text then faded to damn near a blank screen:(
Ive also checked PSU and it looks and smells fine i only have one Computer with PCI-X so can not swap into an other to test:(
Crazy Wabbit ive corrected the date its Christmas 2007 my bad Thanks :)

I know this doesnt help your current situation, but for future reference if you plan on keeping a graphics card over 2 years best manufacturers are:

BFG - 10 Years (excellent rma via Wales)
EVGA - 10 Years (good rma via Germany)
Zotac - 5 Years (not sure how good warranty is with these)

Gigabyte - 3 Years (decent rma via England)
Asus - 3 years (crap lead time for warranty - talking months!)

XFX - 2 Years (decent rma via ocuk)
Gainward - 2 Years (not sure how good they are)
Sapphire - 2 Years (crap lead time for warranty - takes weeks/months!)
Powercolor - 1 Year! (crap rma service too)

My sapphire 4870 died after 5months with the exact same problems you have described. Sent it back to the shop I bought it for testing and the RMA'd for me. Said itll take anywhere between 3weeks to 2months.

Ive heard great stories on this site about ppl rma'ing BFG 8800gtx with custom water block I think it was and ending up with a 280gtx. Stories like that make me smile and want to buy a BFG card lol.

Put my new Card in http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-126-XF&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1403 booted her up loaded new drivers its up and running again chaps:D ya hoo .. back online on a decent PC,I was getting worried it may have been the PSU as i took it along with my graphics card to a shop in town the assistant picked up my Corsair 620 plugged the 4 pin leads into a tiny black box and said that it was faulty after fiddling about pushing the plugs in some worked and some failed,He then assured me not to buy any thing other than Antec but am not convinced this little box has all the answers ` and can it test amperage after all thats what usually decreases or fails so went with my gut instinct and ordered the new card anyway :p:p
