I have just build my new desktop about a month ago and it has a gtx 470 until last week i hadn't got around to installing speed fan and when i did i was shocked to find that at idle with two monitors it was at 65.c and when gaming 80.c is this at all normal?

Yeah fairly normal - tho mine seems to go into low power mode with dual monitors now - if it doesn't then 60-70C idle and 80C ish when gaming is normal with the default fan profile.

I'd guess so, I havn't got one myself, but they can operate upto 105c, so i'd say your fine with them temps :)

So if i am gaming lets say on mafia two two and my card is at 80 should i stop i can i continue, as i usually stop to prevent damage

I've setup 3 GTX470 for people and they all run at 82C with the stock fan profile in games like mafia 2 - it would seem they are designed that way.

If your not happy about it you can use MSI Afterburner to create a new fan profile - if you don't mind the noise you can easily drop 10C off the load temps.

You can always download MSI afterburner or Nividia tools and set the fan to 50% as default, the noise is very low, doubt you will tell a differance and the card will run a bit cooler as a result
