My GTX260 is running in x8 mode not x16

I have the Xonar soundcard in the lower pcie x8 slot and the GTX of course in the top slot which should mean that it still runs at x16 but it seems with the soundcard installed there it only runs at x8.

Anyone know how to remedy this?

I have 4 sticks of RAM for 8GB so cannot install the Xonar on any of the top pcie x1 slots as the end of the card hits the inner ram module - totally gash!

If I did install it there I'd need to drop to 4GB RAM only which probably won't make a whole lot of difference but I'd be shy of 4GB RAM!

In this respect I think I might have to get a shorter Xonar/STX if I cannot find a solution!

It won't make any difference - 8x is plenty for a GTX260.

*edit*

assuming your board is PCIE2.. what mobo do you have?

Really won't make a difference?

I think I will be relieved then :D

Thanks!

x8 PCI-e 1.0 would hold it back a bit, but as it seems to be running at PCI-e 2.0 then it will be plenty of bandwidth.

Hmm, I've got my sound card installed in the other full size PCI-E slot and for exactly the same reasons as you mrk. My Xonar HDAV is too long to put in the x1 slots and have dual channel RAM installed. I haven't even looked to see if it's running at x8 or x16.

The mobo is only 1.0 I think (P5K-E) so I'd better check that this weekend.

How much would x8 on a 1.0 be crippling a GTX260?

P5K-E it won't make a difference as the PCI-E slots are hard wired (1 x 4x, 1 x 16x).

I assume the OP is running a P45 based board, in which case using the 2nd PCI-E slot auto splits the bandwidth into 2 x 8x.

Do you have any PCI slots free? might be worth changing your PCI-E Xonar to a PCI one?

Or just live with 8x PCI-E 2.0 ;)

What did you use to OC?

The bandwidth on mine is in line with stock numbers tough which was what got me, so does that mean I'm getting full performance '@ x8 PCI2.0 ?

I didn't know a D2x existed in PCI form btw!

The bandwidth numbers are the cards internal memory->GPU bandwidth, not the PCI-E slot bandwidth.

And yeah, the D1 and D2 are the PCI version of the DX and D2X. :)

I used the EVGA Overclocking Utility buddy... My card Is EVGA by the way, just to clear up that i didn't try to use it with say a BFG card

The utility works with non-EVGA cards too. I've personally used it with my POV 280 :)
