...what do I replace it with?

I have a 4770K running at 4.5GHz and game at 1440P. Don’t really play the latest titles these days but would like it to be reasonably capable if I were to.

I read that there’s a new batch of cards due from both sides fairly soon, but I also see that graphics cards these days are eye-wateringly expensive!

How soon are the new cards due, and should I wait? If I do wait, or don’t wait, what’s a decent place to put my money?

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions.

What sort of budget do you have?

If you check the second hand market you can pick up an RX580 for cheap and it'd be a good card to tide you over for the new releases, the Members Market often has some good deals.

Thanks! Budget is flexible, but I don’t want to spend the insane amount that the current top end cards seem to command, that’s for sure! Gone are my days of having the latest games where I need ultimate GPU performance.

I was expecting to spend between £250-500, but would hope to get many years service out of it (as I have rom the present setup). I’m also not averse to pre-owned cards as people upgrade but I’m very out of touch with all of the latest hardware so I’m not sure what’s good and what’s not these days.

Even a RX570 would be faster than the 780ti. Could possible get that and use as a stop gap.

Nvidia generally won't launch their cards at a decent price or offer god bang for bucks if AMD don't bring something or have something on the market at the same time, so the price the Nvidia cards launch at would largely be depended on if AMD would launch new cards around the same time period.

If Nvidia bring out something first they will charge what they can get away with, and then when AMD bring out something Nv would start reduce the prices as response.

Buy a 2060 Super and enjoy. The newer cards will likely start at >500 this year. It depends on how fast they turn them out I guess, but I haven't heard anything about the x60 versions arriving before the next year.

I'd wait if you can afford to. The entry-level stuff is barely any faster than yours and those that are, are really expensive relative to the upgrade. If you could get a cheap used RX 570/580 it'd be a decent stop-gap with similar performance, but from what I've seen, they're still in high demand.

A used 1070 should be about £150 and 35% ish faster than a 780TI. You can also get an RX580 for about £160 new for very similar performance to your 780Ti.

Then there's the 1660 Super, about £170-180 new and similar performance to the 1070.

Thanks for the help so far.

I’ve put a bid on an 8GB RX580 on the ‘bay and will see what happens. If I don’t win it then I’ll look into some of the other options.

You'd probably get a better deal by putting a request in via the Members Market part of the forums.
Maybe, I’ve put in the max I’m prepared to pay and I’ll either get it for that (or less) or I won’t. I’ll just see what happens...few days without a PC will probably do me good!!!

Well, the ebay RX580 went for more than I was prepared to pay so I just ordered the 2070 Super linked above.

I'm so easily swayed into spending money, but hopefully (like the last one) this will last me a good few years.

Thanks all for the help.

It's a cracking card, enjoy! Almost want to get one myself but figured I'll just wait another 2 months for new ones.
I don’t mind being a few days without a PC, but not sure I could cope with 2 months! I’ll see what launches at a similar price point and maybe quickly flip the new card for minimal loss then...let’s wait and see!

Yeah, definitely. I'm chaffing with "just" an RX 480 as a temporary stand-in. Would absolutely order if I didn't have one at all.

I'd certainly recommend a used 1070 for a 780ti replacement, I went this same route and the results were impressive especially given I ran @ 5760x1080 surround.

I certainly wouldn't be spending too much given the next Gen supposedly is with us around September time....

I weighed up my choices and given I needed something quickly I plumped for a 2070S.

I’ll see what the new range has to offer in September and maybe upgrade again then...

O_o You should have bought a cheap 570/580 and used the extra £300 saved to add to your £450 spent on a 2070s on a new 3000 or 6700xt in a few months time
