Time for a new lid I have a Shoei XR800 'This one but in kwak green' at the moment which is really nice, quiet and well made, but it is ten years + old and also my head shape seems to have changed the front is pressing quite hard against my forehead and is quite painfull after a hour or two.

I am only looking to spend £150, I'm not interested in flash designs, I'd rather a white lid of better quality, problem is my head is big, the Shoei is 61cm. I'd like your opinion on the flip front lids, are they any good? are they noisy, I'm not a courier so I'm quite happy for a full face but like the look and appeal of the convenience of the flip front.

Cheers

Not really a fan of flip lids myself, I recently bought the missus a AGV S4 though, it was a couple of hundred in the bike shop but you can find it on the bay for £100. a complete bargain. great simple design and a cracking lid for the cash.

I tried a couple of flip lids on with the same thoughts as you but I found they feel weird. Don't feel like they strap to my head properly, not enough 'contact' to my head for it to feel safe. Definitely try some on because they feel much more different than you'd expect.

The S4's a nice lid but again try it on, I'm a little bit chinny (not a lot though) and my chin touches the chin bar. Same with Roof lids.

Nope been to Infinity Bikes in Clapham, all lids too small even the XXL Arai they had in the back store room, apparantley the XR 800 was named as 'the bucket' as they sold it to many caribbean's with dreadlocks, doh and I've only got a nr 2 on the sides and a 4 on top

Found one at last , funny the Shoei XR1100 I fitted nothing else,

review

wow so light compared to the 800
better ventilation
double glazed visor = no condensation
wider view of the road felt wierd at first
soooooo comfortable fits like a pair of new basketball boots
only had it in black
removable liner / washable
chin wind guard for winter
noisier than the 800 but I put that down to the ventilation, I think I'll be using ear plugs

Price £299 less 10% because I did my CBT with the affiliated training centre, I so wanted to spend £150 but as usual size dictates just as my size 14/15 shoes ment I had to buy mx boots

Didn't go for a flip in the end, I think too many moving parts to be around in 5 years, they are best suited to couriers and instructors / examinors, my XR800 is 15 years old and only has a couple of scratches, I'll save that for the woods and fields then

It's funny watching TV for an hour with you helmet on

Hopefully a clean helmet..
Speaking from personal experience the ladies arnt too keen on it .
A good wash with soap and water of even shower gel does the job
although my friend said he uses lady soap on his helmet, ive not tried it though :D

I kinda skipped the posts and came to yours lol i thought you was advising the op to have a wash :D

Came in here expecting advice on a smelly helmet…. err, whiffy lid :p

Oh well, I’ll still pass on a tip someone shared with me recently:

Put your lid into a plastic bag and seal it, then bung the whole thing into the freezer and leave over night – the cold apparently kills all the bacteria that causes the smell… I’m dubious as I’d be worried about what the extreme temps would do to the shell; if anything?
