My HillClimb! - now with video!!!

Did my first hillclimb at Forrestburn today in my daily drive/drift mx5. Fresh from the respray booth on Friday it performed admirably!

Unfortunately I was placed in the same class as all the westfields, caterhams, tigers etcas my car wasn't a saloon car but a "sports" car.

Anyway, first run out and I nearly binned it at the S's and put in a 59s time. Not too bad for a bog std 1.6 mx5. Anyway, 2 practice runs later and I had managed 2 consistent 58s runs. On my first timed run I did a 58.3s run and on my last timed run I managed to get a 57.3s run but drifting the last hairpin in 2nd rather than drop down into first!

End result placed my 3rd in my class! (and no there were'nt only 3 in the class!) So am well chuffed that I kept up with and beat some of the lotus 7 boys!

First pic is of me taken by my friend, the rest are taken by me.

Looks good fun. :)

What range of cars are used at these events?

Pretty much anything really. There was a fiat panda taking part, 998cc metro, scoobies, ev0s, minis, even high spec single seaters doing 41second runs. I personally have a soft spot for the old classics hence the pics I put up, but if you wanna see any more of any type of car I'll post some more up.

Im not doubting the validity of the photos, but that looks incredibly fake for some reason. Especially the rear.

fixed now, PS auto levels mucked it up for some reason. I've changed it for the direct image from the camera.

What was the best/worst time of the day?!

How much did this event cost to enter?
Did you need a race license?

Best time was by a single seater runn by Tillicoultry Quarries at 41s and the slowest was approx 75seconds by the old car in the first set of pics.

It cost me £58 to enter for the day and yes you do need a race licence (£33 for the basic licence), but you also need nomex overalls, specced helmet and a few ither bits and bobs.

Any idea what a Focus Would be under? :p

Is there a website with info on all the stuff you need etc?

Depends on the engine size but more likely to class A2 road saloon cars over 1400cc and up to 1800cc, then its A3 over 1800cc road saloon cars.

All the info you can get here - http://www.msauk.org/site/custom/home/default.asp?chapter=22

I enjoy the hillclimbs and sprints but the navigational rallies are a blast too :D

Thas a mini Marco innit?

They always did look a bit dodgy...

But I am thinking thats a decent camera he has there and thats why the photo's look TOO good

:D

Pats Nikon D70 ;)

Yeh, thats my mates mini marcos, he was the one taking the pics of me. It's got quite a high spec a-series in with a webber, he managed a new pb of 56.4 I think.

I thought the A series box was part of the lump in minis...? :S

*n

Yeh it is, but the a-series gearbox is the worst known to man for transmission loss and general rubbishness :) I would've chosen a better gearbox imho.

I got slagged by the start marshalls all day because everytime I pulled up to the start line I had Danger Zone, the top gun theme tune playing. :D So in jest my friend who had videoed me during the day made up the video below which you can download. It includes my first run where I almost lose it and a few of the last hairpin before the finish line.
