This is the first time I've ever oc'd.

Anyway, the first thing I did was set everything manually to stock, then put the base clock up to 160. Its been running fine now for an hour in prime95 with no errors, however the temps seem quite high. Anyone got any tips?

Your temps are high.

What cooler have you got on the cpu?

If it's the retail cooler that came with the cpu that may be your problem - as it's designed for stock speeds.

The other thing to consider is the airflow through your rig - what is that like?

And lastly - check that the heatsink is connected properly to the cpu.

I'm using the Noctua NH-U12P cooler and my case is a Silverstone Fortress. All fans are running and I cleaned and re-seated the heatsink today. Think it might be a bit too much TIM though. Think thats gonna be my next port of call. Back soon....

Why have you set the Vcore to 1.312V? - I have the same chip as you and I set the VCORE to 1.19V and i'm at 3.6Ghz (65 degrees load). If the vcore is currently set to AUTO - then manually set it to 1.20V (in fact you could probably get away with 1.17 at those speeds).

Legend!

I totally missed the voltages when taking everything off of auto.

I'm now running at a respectable 62c average running prime95.

Taking it further is another days job though as the missus is soon to get in :D

Christ, you have good eye sight. That, or i need to make an opticians appointment. I can only just make out the temps as it's in black...
