Hiya Folks

I'm not a total Noob.;)

But the i920 is a very new area to me([email protected] was the last one)

I have read a little amount regarding clocking the i920 and the UD5. but not much goes in until you actually start.

So as a start I have just increased the bclk to 190 and left everything else at stock or auto.

here is my pre overclock

And here is my post quick overclock after a 30 min run of prime95(blend)

The temps are a little too high for me they didnt go above 89Deg until I put the sides back on my case.

Everything is set to Auto.

So thats my next job is getting the Volts down to bring the temp down.

Thats where I'm a little stuck there seems to be a whole host of adjustments.

So not sure whether to try decreasing the volts or increasing the bclk to see what the max is???

Cpu: 1.2375
Qpi:1.35
Cpu PLL: 1.8
Qpi linkspeed is @6.84Ghz

Memory multi is at Auto and is at 1520Mhz

There are loads of settings on this UD5 MB

Volts are Lower in Bios than in cpu-z(1.36v) Isnt it normally the other way road??

Ok I cant find spread spectrum.

And which cpu voltage am I meant to be looking at vcore is at 1.36 in pc health status but cpu is at 1.2***

I have now fitted another Fan(noctua) to my Fenrir in push pull. which has dropped my temps loads

I love this new system I'm Blending with Prime95 and still able to use the PC as normal.
With my E6600 the mouse pointer wouldnt move when running prime

Going to go for a proper 4Ghz.

Then do some proper tweaking as so far I have only changed the bclk

Prime'ng@4Ghz and after hour or so got a BSOD.
Went into bios and noticed I hadnt changed the V-core back after lowering it trying to lower temps.

So back up to std and re Priming

Ok 2.5 hrs blend stable with prime95 @4Ghz with 1.25 volts and temps peaking once at 81 Deg.

Pretty happy so far
Amazed I haven't had to change ANY other settings

Should I be testing with Blend or large fft.??

I'm just getting started on some proper overclocking on my 920/UD5 combo. So far I've used 'easytune' to get to 3.3ghz with turbo mode. I've recently tried following this guide...

http://forum.giga-byte.nl/upload/files/Core i7 920 oc 4G 2008.12.12_(ENG).pdf

to get to 4ghz. I passed the 3D mark vantage test but got a BSOD after ~2mins of orthos with CPU at 70deg. I'm using the noctua cooler too - where on the motherboard have you plugged ur fans into? As the cpu fan socket is for 4 pins, whereas the fans have 3

You guyrs all ahppy with temps 70-80c...??

Im still on dual core, but always strived to keep mine below mid 50's under load...

Whats the normal non clocked temps of these i7's?

Hmmm, mine idles at stock @ 37ish iirc. Running a True with a sharkoon eagle se and in a lian li a05. Perhaps quite high due to the small case and fact that i've got 3 hard drives, 285 gtx and soudnproofing in there! :o :(

Think the highest oc I'll be having is around 3Ghz :( Not sure how to combat the high temps!

If you look at the securing clip though, its slightly to one side and the 3 pin female connectors connect fine to the 4 pin male connector on the board.

sweet, I completely missed that! This has been my first build so still getting used to all this stuff. Is there a way of connecting both fans to the same header? So that both fans speeds can be varied the same

Temps are fine up to 80c from all iv seen. My dual core was well over 60 on load. End of the day they will cut out before doing any damage.

What I cant believe is how well the machine performs. I can blend at 100%CPU usage
and still open files or browse.

These I7's Are the mutts nuts.

Going to push it a bit further tonight. see how fast she goes, then work out if I want to keep the speed, whether to go onto water to combat the heat

Am I the only one that has widly erratic real temp / core temp readings? One second cpu temp will be 40c the next 70c... It seems to be able to adjust it's temperature in nanoseconds :o

Also easytune 6 and speedfan give far lower readings than either of these so which can I believe?

Still having trouble with my temps - may try some artic silver 5 (currently using the thermalright stuff) and changing the Sharkoons for some enermax clusters / noctuas (still trying to decide which).
