My ideas for horror FPS game

Am I the only one who feels if a game did this I would find myself rolling my eyes at how ridiculous and cheesy it was.

An evil demon saying "I will get out of this game and get you gamer", and pointing at a pic of me and the lads plastered last week, lols?

A detective game would be better.

You're trying to solve a long and gruesome case and you end up getting e-mails/phone calls as you go through the game saying 'I know where you live' bla bla bla. A non linear one would be amazing.

I like the idea. Would be cool if the game incorporated some images of you in the game too - either from your documents or facebook etc.

Cheesy, certainly but fun none the less :).

I'd be pretty narked if a game started going through my personal documents. I've nothing to hide at all, but it just sounds like having your privacy bum-raped. What kind of precedent does it set for any other applications? We'd start getting browsers checking where your holiday snaps were taken and tailor making adverts to suit and the like.

Plus any game like this would have to have massive disclaimers mentioning that it does such things completely ruining the feel of it.

There's a Metal Gear Solid game on Gamecube where some psychic enemy proves how super his powers are, by (the game reading your saved games) saying things like, 'You've been playing Super Mario Sunshine - haven't you?'.

The original did this on the PS1.

There was a game that did this, or something like it, several years ago. It was a sort of horror/adventure game, and you were asked to put your email and contact details in just to register the game when installing (or so you thought). But you'd start getting emails and calls from people in the game, written as if they were real, helping or hindering your attempts to solve the mystery. Pretty clever stuff.

EDIT: haha, check my post at the end of the original thread... I have a good memory :D

That one, I believe, was "Missing: Since January". Great game! Also had a sequel, I think.

The use of your own files within the game reminds me of the old Win95 game "Virus". That one was an FPS of sorts where you were taken inside your own computer to battle a virus, so you'd see your own files etc. while you were in there being turned against you.

Speaking of faking crash-to-desktops, there was a point in Batman:AA where Batman's vision gets all fuzzy due to the Scarecrow - I actually thought my graphics card was artifacting, and ended the game in task manager to check out my GPU temps :o
