Hi guys having a few problems with my sky BB.

Made a call to sky the other week as my speed had dropped from 20meg to about 11meg my noise margins both up and down had gone mad also (usually they are 7.1 down, 8 up) sky were very helpful, they reset the noise margins and got me back to how it had been for the past year.

Since then its been a bit flakey, my speed fluctuates from 10-18meg my noise margins are going from 0-20db and wont settle.

I have plugging into the master socket, used 3 seperate filters and every other variation I can think of to connect.

the phone (seems) to be fine when plug in by itself but sounds fuzzy and screachy when plugged in with the router at the same time. the router however is having problems even when plugged in without the telephone.

I assumed it may be the filter but ive tried 3 others, and the router is still the same.

There is only one phone socket into the house.

any ideas what more I can do whilst im trying to call sky, I checked the sidcup exchange on sam knows but I cant see anything that would suggest a problem their.

Sounds like the router to me.Call sky or e-mail them and explain the symptoms, they should send you a replacement router :)

So when you listen to the phone when the router is not connected it sound fine?

Your issue sounds similar to what mine was like. Internet would drop, SNR would go through the floor and line would be full of static and crackles. I tried three routers and it was still the same. I eventually got BT out and they tested and did a couple of things with the line on the pole and despite them saying they couldn't detect a problem it's been fine since.

Beware though if you consider getting in touch with your line provider or Sky as if they send an Engineer out and they trace. Fault to your equipment BT Openreach will chare you for it.

My particular line made a noise even when the router was isolated from the line, but it was a fault that was intermittent so I had to log the faults over a time period and check when it was fine too.

If it's not the filter then it's something on the line. BT man should use his half a wit to plug a fluke tester into it and it'll tell him that it's noisy and they'll jumper you to another pair :)

Being BT this may or may not happen, I have had to get them out 2 -3 times before to get an engineer that was able to operate his testing equipment, but they're not all muppets patience will prevail :)
