It's like it'll be completely fine and the suddenly nothing will load and it'll last for around 10mins. What's going on?

So annoying when trying to play Diablo 3.

Which ISP?
BT

tried speedtest.net ? might have high ping/latency issues, that come and go.

Yeah it's ping/latency issues, i'll even time out of Vent sometimes.

I've seen this a lot latley not with D3 just browsing, one thing I noticed my work VPN was seizing all my upload virtually so if you have a VPN running I would check that.

Also I did hear over on the D3 forums that the D3 netcode communicates similar to P2P connections and some ISPS have those downgraded in priority soit might affect your latency.

Is it only D3 or other applications that are affected?

Nah, i don't have any VPNs. Nah it's everything, like i said, webpages won't load at all or be really slow for about 5-10mins and then it's fine. I didn't bother me before, but now i'm trying to play Diablo 3 it's something i need to somehow sort out if possible.

How are you connected wireless or wired?

Wired.

Cheers for the responses so far guys.

Oh is it? Awesome. Will give them a call in a bit then.

Did they mention what the problem was?

And how long did it take to fix it?

So they told me to disconnect my landline on the ADSL filter for 2 hours and they'll ring me back in the next 24 hours.

That means i can still use the internet though so i don't know what they are looking to monitor with no interruptions. It's the internet, not the phoneline thats ****ed.

I need a new ISP anyway. BT charge us far too much but i don't know what's good these days.

Sorry for triple post. My internets being that slow at the moment i can't even load a youtube video or anything - could that be down to whatever they're fiddling with?

South Wales area. My old girls computers comes up with some locked wireless alternatives - my PCs wired though and i don't have a wifi card.

:(

FFS, looks like no Diablo 3 for me tonight. How long does it take to switch providers anyway, and do they all send you a free router?

I swear my internet is going at like 4kb/s a second or something.

Yeah, changing the equipment is easy, can be done in a short time, i'm guessing setup will be easy as well.

"little downtime"? What exactly will happen though 'cause i've never switched ISPs before. First i ring BT and ask for MAC code, then i ring Sky saying i want to sign up and give them the BT MAC code and then what happens/how long does it take?

It's very sad i know, i'm just perhaps a little too keen to play some more D3.

Thanks muchly for your help.

Hmm, alright then. I can see why people get stuck on **** ISPs for ages then. I can't really go without the net for any extended period of time because of my work. I wonder if i can ring up BT again and tell them to stop whatever they're doing. I preferred it going off every 10-60mins than being this slow.

Reckon there's a chance i'll be able to sort something?

Ah right. Cheers guys, i guess i'll just have to hope my internet suddenly speeds up then (which won't be tonight of course :().

I think the guy actually said there was a problem on the line, he's gonna run some tests and i can plug my landline back in after 2 hours (i haven't yet). Without being racist though, i couldn't understand most of what he was saying.

Yeah, i'm not knocking the guy - he asked what he should address me by and remembered it, kept apologising and thanking me whenever he was away from the phone for 10 seconds or more. In the middle of the call he asked me to check my ADSL filter and i accidently disconnected the phone, within a minute he called me on my mobile, so good stuff and i didn't want to be rude.

Anyway, i ran speedtest and was getting 0.47mb, ran it on my Mums computer and saw she was getting 5-6mb, so i switched to a different ethernet port and now i'm getting 5-6mb. Maybe all it was down too is one of the ports being ****ed on the Homehub2. Hopefully it doesn't start randomly not working again now.
