Hi there, Here is my version of the Jetty photo also taken by Spit. Mine was taken on 29.12.05 at about 9.30am

I hope that it worked as it is my first go at this sort of thing!

No image, sorry folks I'll have to try again!

Nice pic, not sure what settings you used or if you had a tripod but if youd gone for a smaller apperture you night have got some more detail in the hills as well as the jetty

Where was the pic taken - looks a nice peaceful place to visit

Here is another one of the next jetty taken the next day when there was lots of mist coming off the water.

These photos were taken with an Ixus 400 so there ibsnot a lot that can be done regarding control. At the same time I also used my trusty EOS 600 with Fuji Velvia and a polarising filter. I am really looking forward to the slides coming back as I have had them placed on a photo CD as well.

The location is at Ullswater in the Lake District in the grounds of a hotel called "The Inn On The Lake"

make sure you post em!

Thank you for your encouraging comments, I can't wait to pick up my CD tomorrow.
Phoenix_Cosmos, it is not possible to take this shot at sunset due to the mountains getting in the way. In addition the frost did not last beyond 10.30 am.
Senset pics are some of my favourite!

Nice pictures and looking forward to seeing the slides. Velvia is about my favourite landscape film, but you do need to be a bit carefull when using a polarizer aswell, due to velvia already being very saturated it's quite easy to take it too far.

Maybe try earlier in the morning to get better light perhaps, also a lower angle and more sky might be nicer. Its good for an Ixus, just a shame it wasn't wider :)

Here is a wider version with a slight bit of tweaking. It is not possible to get any earlier shots in this particular location due to the surrounding mountains blocking out early sunrises. Even in the height of summer the sun does not rise properly until 8.00am.

Hi Peter,

Its so nice around there to photo. I only had a limited time and crap lighting.

Your pics are nice, I like the coating on the jetty.

Heres mine again.....

Hi Spit, great minds think alike when it comes to taking photos! I was staying at the hotel and overlooked the jetties from our bedroom. Could not believe the lighting when I opened the curtains so after a quick breakfast I nipped out armed with all my camera equipment.
Have you taken any shots of the classic boathouse near Pooley Bridge?
Here is another shot taken from near the steamers:

I didnt make it to pooley bridge, I had very little time unforunately. Would love to go back on a clear sunny day.

I stayed at Appleby Manor.

Sorry to drag this back from the depths, but I was in IKEA today and saw a poster of this exact view and I knew that I recognised it from somewhere!

Sorry - I could only find a thumbnail of the poster
EDIT - found a bigger pic

I know that the poster is at least 4 years old as I had it for a while whilst at uni. (It was just seeing it again today that reminded me!) TBH, I'm sure that it is a highly-photographed view!

Hi, you may have noticed that the jetties don't appear to be the same in all of the photos in this thread. That is because there are 3 different ones, about 5 metres apart, all parallel, leading into Ullswater from the back of "The Inn on The Lake" at Glenridding.

i like the first photo....but they get better as i read down this thread.... i like the one with the mist!!!!
