My landscapes are flat :(

Or do what most seem to do on here and combine exposures ;)

What are you talking about? How is bracketing going to help if the light isn't good in the first place? That's just another example of trying to force a landscape to be incredible when it is only ever going to mediocre.

If the light isn't there you can't invent it even with all the ND grads, polarizers, bracketed exsposures, HDR and processing in the world. It's just not going to come anywhere close to the luck/blind determination to be in the right place at the right time. That's what makes landscape photography so interesting, you could take a photo that is completely stunning but if you took exactly the same shot 10 minutes later it could be totally flat and boring. It's just the way it goes and just adds an extra level of 'WHOA!' when you finally see something that is truly amazing.

I think you missed the winy smiley.

Was about to post a similar rant until I realised MrLOL was being sarcastic (I hope).

Landscape photography is very much like wildlife photography. You want to capture something interesting not a duck at the local pond. You, may need to travel long distances, hike for hours i the wilderness and you still have to be lucky to find that phonographic moment. And if you do find your subject, be it a black Rhino or a perfect vista, its up to the weather gods what kind of lighting you have.
Ok, the subject might still be around for the next thousand years, but if you have jetted of to the other-side of the world for this moment that is little comfort.
Dedication and persistence are needed, and some luck.
