hi,

daft question here, but i have never had to deal with this before.

i have a Dell XPS M1710 Duo Processor T2500 (2.0 GHz, 2 MB L2 cache, 667 MHz FSB) which i connect to our network wirelessly.

i am thinking of buying one of the new 802.11n draft spec' routers but i am not sure if my dell will be able to take advantage of the extra speed. i don't think it will but maybe i can do an upgrade or something.

here is the spec of the wireless adaptor on the dell - Intel Pro WLAN 3945 Internal Wireless (802.11alb/g 54 Mbps) for Duo Processors.

so what do you think. is there any hope. doesn't look like it as the above says it is only compatible with a,b, or g.

hmm. never heard of an n dongle. just going to google that now.

i was hoping there were firmware updates that would allow you to upgrade your adaptor but this is probably wishful thinking. will have a search for that later too.

Laptops aint draft N compatible yet. You would have to install a new wireless module to be N compatible.

ok. thanks for the replies.

one other thing occurs to me that i should double check. if i get one of these 125mbps 802.11g routers this will work with my existing Intel Pro WLAN 3945 Internal Wireless (802.11alb/g 54 Mbps) won't it.

i would guess it would, but in the spec above it does just say 54mbps.

not quite, I setup a laptop for a customer last week (similar model) which had a draft N adapter built in
