i have a samsung q45 running vista 32 bit homep

when i turn it on it loads to the welcome screen of vista, then just stick on a blue screen with the arrow in the centre, if i hard power it off and back on again, everything will load, but no programs will respond (the only program that does fully work is google chrome), and when i go to shutdown the pc it stick on the logging off screen and won't budge?

it does boot and work fully every 25-30 hard power on and offs. so i managed to virus scan and nothing was found.

i have important work on there, and some family photos.

Sounds like somethings gone wonky with your windows install. Easiest thing to do would be to nuke it.

but it worked flawlessly for over about a year.

could it have corrupted?

i suppose i will have to nuke it, but i have no external caddy, so i cant back up!

Try and back things up over a network

Connect to the same network & workgroup (last one not always necessary)
On remote machine:
Goto Start
Run
\\machinename\c$
Enter credentials of laptop
Pull everything from it

External caddy is 2.50 off fleabay.

Laptop HDD to desktop HDD adaptor is £2.50, backup in your desktop.

How much is your data worth to you?

Reinstalling windows might work, but the drive itself might be fubared.
