To be fair, you only noticed the issue the next morning. I assume the guy that picked up ur car from MOT was of the same mind as you in that its all ok.

Then, the wire came loose on your way home as it was bady fitted.

Person you spoke to at the garage was perplexed like you was.

Original mechanic is in all probability a sloppy, uncaring worker and couldnt be bothered to sort out his error, thus causing stresses to rise all around.

Kudos the MOT guy for sorting it.

I'm still trying to work out how a loose front sidelight wire can blow the fuse to the rear lights and dash lights but not cause a problem with the front side lights.

I'm also still trying to work out what part of servicing a car causes a garage to "break" the cars lights.

Or how a garage plus an MOT centre managed to miss that the lights weren't working.

The 1st garage should take responsibility if there was any responsibility to be had; like someone said, they outsourced the MOT work (assuming it's a regular thing they do).

Assuming it all worked before then entirely reasonable to think that either place could've accidentally knocked it and only fully dislodged post-MOT; either that or it was already on its way out and the whole thing is just bad timing.

Can't really blame anyone but understand the frustration. The garage could've taken 5min to check it out but chose not to so consider it school fees and use someone else next time.

can't can it - maybe disconnect bulb again and see if full symptoms still there

Had it once where 2 days after a service and MOT the rear fog lights wouldn't stay on unless I held the button (ironically foggy 2 days later) - somehow, likely during the service, moisture had got into the box with the "intelligent" power distribution module... I fixed it and got on with my life as no way to prove what happened - sadly a lot of garages are pretty slap dash these days.

I'll pay you £24 just to not have to read such a massive whinge fest. Christ you're a grown man, behave like one.

You actually read it? :p

On a serious note…having suffered from depression and anxiety in the past I learnt quite quickly that getting stuff of my chest was beneficial. Your outdated and rude response tells me more about you than it does me.

I’m sick to the back teeth of Garages not doing their job…it’s not rocket science…and I don’t need this hassle when I have paid good money to get my car serviced.

You’re maybe too weak to complain….maybe you don’t have the confidence unless you’re hidden behind a computer screen…but I’m not…if more people kicked off these fitters would do their jobs properly.

No. I stuck it in ChatGPT and told it to summarise it for me. It's response was "my life is too short for this".
Then why post at all…why engage with any of it…

Last time I checked one could choose what threads to reply to…

As for a waste of time…..well Diddums….:D

Ok serious response then... these things happen. I'm sure everything did work and something just got knocked. They must have not put the lights on after having done the work and weren't to know. From the perspective of garage 1, of course they aren't going to want to faff about with that as it's not something they've touched.

Yes you got given the run about a bit but you sound quite demanding and rude as a customer. Also a bit dramatic... It's a couple of lights out. You joke about me having skills to find the problem, but honestly a quick look yourself I'm sure wouldn't have hurt and then all of this drama could have been avoided if you had found it. Sounds like it may have been fairly obvious if it was hanging out the light cluster. These places get things wrong sometimes. They wouldn't have meant to cut corners as it costs them more in time and money to put things like this right.

There are much worse things in life to be upset about. Even car related ones! I mean imagine you drove a Ford Ecoboost for example.

I’m sick of Mechanics not doing their jobs…the last place put my stainless steel back box on wonky..FFS

Weeks before that I got Apple Play installed in my CX5 and the guy couldn’t get the steering controls to work.

I said I put Apple Play in my MX5 myself…it was plug and play…the guy had cheapened it up and not bought a Connects2 loom.

Should have done the install myself…but I couldn’t face it…I expected a pro installer with 5 stars reviews to just do it. Not cut corners on a loom…I had no steering controls for a week…he then came to my house having ordered a Connects2 loom and it just worked.

Wasted my time and his for what? to save a few quid…

When I take my car to the Garage I shouldn’t have to pop the bonnet myself and troubleshoot. That’s what I’m paying them for.

Do your ******* job!

Just chalk this up to bad luck and move on. The first/original garage are a bit sloppy for basically palming your problem to the MOT garage. Don't use them again and move on.

Have you done research before you use these places? Sounds like you've had multiple issues with mechanics. "5 star reviews" are good and all, but do you know anybody yourself that have used any of these places? I'd usually try and find places from word of mouth too. Reviews are a good factor, but they can sometimes be faked/bought too, so be aware of that. They're not the be all and end all.
