Hi all,

Thought I better do a build log as I haven't seen to manyfor the Lian Li PC-Q08B. I decided to do a M-ITX build and get rid of the Coolmaster 932 and have my PCon the desk. I have a had ITX PC in the past but I let the parents have it.

First I sold most my old PC parts.

  • E5200 @ 3.7GHz
  • 4Gb
  • GT260
  • GA-965P-DS3
  • HAF932

Then I bought the new parts.

  • i7 860 (mm) (£120)
  • Lian Li PC-Q08B (£90)
  • Kept my GT260
  • Corsair Value 2GB DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Low-Voltage & Corsair Value 4GB (Already had it)
  • Gigabyte GA-H55N-USB3 (Auction site £65)
  • Antec Kúhler H2O 620 (OCUK £49)
  • Kaze Slim 120x120x12mm fan (So I could fit the Antec H20)
  • 2 old 500GB and 120GB hard disks

When I first put the PC together I had problems getting the ram running in Dual channel but a bios reset sorted that. I also had to buy the Antec Cooler as there is only room for a 10cm cooler in the case and most low profile coolers wouldn't fit the GA-H55N-USB3 (I did try using the stock cooler but temps were very bad).

I had to trim the H20 mounting plate so it didn't touch the resistors or whatever they are on the back of the motherboard. I had read about needing to do this on the GA-H55N-USB3 board with the Corsair H50 so I was expecting the same. I just used a pair of wire cutters and it didn't cause a problem really.

Cooler fitted with the slim fan to allow space for the power supply.

Everything else fitted in the case. It looks messy but I can see in the case and there is plenty of room in and around the CPU and memory. If I had a modular PSU things would be tidier.

I haven't tried overclocking yet but I hoping I can at least get 3.4/3.6Ghz although im not sure how good the ram will be. Any OCUK member with experience clocking i7860 with this board? My idle temps with this cooler are around 24c-29c.

It looks good mate, I'll be the first to reply to you. How is the antec kuhler, is it doing a good job in cooling the core 2 duo?

Thanks.

Yes the Antec kuhler is cooling a i7 860 not a core 2 duo. It seems to be doing it well though. I haven't overclocked the chip yet so time will tell. Its idling at 25c and today is hot!

It's a very nice case and build but ewww...cable management !!!! Hard in tiny cases but you can do better than that .

I agree and when I next have chance ill tidy it up. I always get to point where I just want to try and make sure it works :)

2 questions please

1) H20.. how thick a fan can you fit?
2) How long a VGA card can you fit with ALL HDD cages in place? I'm needing all those HDD spaces!

Thanks for posting this thread, I'm looking at getting a Q08 too (have a thread running at the moment). I'm looking at having almost this exact PC very soon putting the components in my sig into it.

Nice to see it on a desk to get an idea of size. Makes me want one even more now.

I don't think there is a limitation to how thick a fan you fit. I have fitted a much thinner than standard to allow room though. Not sure what size gpu you could fit with both drive cages in. I can take some measurements if you need me to.

Pleased it was of some use. Yes its a really nice case, looks good, plenty of space and still small enough to go on the desk.
