Well of course my Mac Mini warranty ran out at the beginning of November which only means one thing, it was bound to fail. ;)

I turned the electricity off in the house to wire in a plug socket and light switch in another room, when I switched it back on the Mac Mini fan came on really loud and nothing else happens. I've tried holding down the power button etc. but all that happens is the fan on full blast.

Any ideas? I guess I could take it to the Apple shop at Westfield next week before I go to watch QPR but I don't really want to be carrying it around.

Weird, never heard of that one before. From reading around, you should reset the SMC, here, if not then it might be borked and you will have to give Apple a ring.

I think I'll take it to the Apple shop, are these genius bars any good? I'll want to backup some of my data if they want to send it away I guess just in case they send it back with a clean harddisk.

I guess I should have unplugged it from the mains when turning the power on and off but I thought as it has a separate power block it would be ok!

Genius Bar is great, got plenty of time for you. They will sort you out.

Just an update on this, I got hold of another very cheap Mac Mini and it's doing the same thing so it appears to be the PSU. I've managed to find a place online selling them for £12 each (including VAT) so I bought two and I'll have two Mac Minis now. :)

Also, I ordered a Macbook from the refurb shop which has arrived at my office today, so going from zero Macs to three!! ;)

Which specs you got? Tempted to pick up a cheap Mac Mini!

Nice one.

Get some pictures up :)

Heres the Macbook, and my two Mac Minis, the PSUs haven't turned up yet though!

syke, Oliver, I bought a 'spares or repair' 1.6ghz Mac Mini from the well known auction site for £147 without a harddisk. I'll know how well it works once I get a working PSU I guess. ;)
