My mail is broken.... :confused:

So, I was happily using mail on os x for month and months and now it has started refusing to open....I click it and it sits there pretending it's going to open (bouncing etc) and I get the beachball but it never opens, I go make coffee, have a shower, play cricket and it's still there mocking me, so I'm assuming it isn't going to open...

Anybody know how to fix it??

Do you have all the os x updates?

Try deleting it and reinstalling from the cd?

i have all the updates except the latest itunes as i'm waiting for a convienient moment to install it.

i've just deleted mail, and now i can't find it on the restore DVDs, it's not in the bundled apps list....hmm, so I've gone from broken mail to no mail...oops!

I'd also move your ~/Library/Mail folder sideways, delete your ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist file and then copy your mail folders back once you have it up and running again

Nope, tried reinstalling and it does exactly the same thing, how bizarre...

possibly corrupt user settings? Does it open with another user account for example?

Yeah, opens fine in another account, my email is all imap so is there a way to just wipe the settings for mail??

Made no difference...

but actually completing the setup wizard in another account, then logging back into my own and trying again...it opens fine, rather strange but hey...it works at least...
