Is a Macbook the way to go?

Being a PC nut he asked me which route to take, and based on specs the Macbook is expensive IMO, software seems cheaper (Well the OS is) and he could probably get a decent laptop running Vista HP for half the price of a macbook. He also prefers the size, a 13" Core2 based MB is about £800, same spec in a 14.1" Vista HP lappy is £500.

The real 2-part question is, would a macbook be better for Photoshop use?, or would it be more worthwhile spending the money on a decent Vista based laptop?.

TIA!

Liam

If I was in that position, I would go for the Windows laptop without doubt. He'll get far more for his money avoiding the Mac. He'll be able to max out the RAM and have a bigger screen to play with for less than the MacBook. Probably have a slightly better graphics card too.

£475 will get you a Dell Vostro 1400 14"with a 2GHz Core 2 Duo, 2 GB of RAM, 160GB HDD and a GeForce 8400 graphics chipset, and you have the option of upgrading the display resolution to 1440x900 for £30. I'm willing to bet that'll run Photoshop far better than the cheapest MacBook.

CS3 runs sweet as a nut on my MacBook Pro :)

Even faster on Leopard too!
