Currently have 2x 980's, but not using SLI at the moment.

just doing some working out to see what Pascal needs to be to be worth while for me

1x 980 ti vs 1x 980 = 15-20% faster - this correct?
980 SLI vs 1x 980 Ti = 0%-30% faster than a 980Ti (depends on games)

so if 1080, is the same as a 980Ti (possible) it will be around 15%+ faster than my single 980. but if it supports SLI well. it could be 20% slower.

does this make sense?
so in theory 1080 needs to be same/beat a 980Ti to be worth while for me.

Not far out IMO, though I thing the range may be more wide.

1x 980 ti vs 1x 980 = 15-50% faster?
980 SLI vs 1x 980 Ti = -30% - 40% faster than a 980Ti

(Ti wins on games that need +4GB Vram)

What the Ti and the 1080 should do consistently better than the 980 SLI is the minimum frame rate. Again there will be significant variation dependant on specific games.

Smogsy, Why don't you SLI them, and then if you come across a game where you're not happy with the performance, upgrade then?

I'll probably to go from 970s to 1070s in advance of BF5, I'll be expecting at least 80% increase in performance.

I don't think alt tabbing for youtube is a good use of an entire GPU, its basically doing nothing. you could use the single 980 to do the same task with no hit on performance.

Even less point in having sli on a game that doesn't need it..

Plus YouTube on second I don't get alt+tab issues after many in a session
