Well I have been trying to slim down my OS by only having the programs I genuinely need. Now it comes to the amount of media players and how to strip back to just one. I have the following:

Realplayer
Media player 11
quicktime
DVX
Gom player
VlC media player

I only really Windows Media Player for music and Gom Player for vidios. When it comes to realplayer and quicktime I have those installed because cirttain websites have demanded them in order to play content, for example I can not get cirtian BBC content if I do no have them installed. DVX and VLC i have becauce cirtian files will not play on gom player.

Is there a way to strip this right back and have just the one bit of software?

You could get rid of Gom player and DVX (DivX?) and just use VLC for videos. No point in having several players when VLC will do it all nice and easily.

Also, What browser do you use? Firefox and Chrome should just install a plugin for any videos, So you can get rid of quicktime and realplayer.
