A simple optical you're used to is better than a pimped one you're not.
However with any new mouse you need to recalibrate yourself to get used to it. Gave a friend a Kinzu to replace his intellimouse, hated it for a while but now he likes it. Just need time to recalibrate.
You could always try the Logitech MX518 which is a good optical mouse - many people who I know who used the inteillimouse (including myself), found it a very good switch. Others which I am hearing more good things about are the steelseries xai and the Zowie EC1. The Deathadder is the closest to the 3.0 shape, while the Xai is closer to the 1.1 and the Zowie is sorta a 1.1/3.0 hybrid.
