I've got an HP LP2475w with 3000 backlight hours and I've noticed in the last few days it's started to make a slight noise when certain things are displayed on screen. It's not all the time, but it seems to be tied in with what the monitor is displaying.

My other monitor is much much older and probably has nearly 10k backlight hours and that makes an audible constant noise. So I'm guessing it's just an age thing?

Out of curiosity, what makes the noise?

Backlight inverter. Pretty much every LCD generates a noise when brightness is below 100% and it does seem to get worse with age.

I'm guessing the new noise you're hearing is when a full page of black on white text is displayed (for example, notepad maximized and full of letters). This causes my Dell 2209wa to hum like mad.

I had a screen or two that did the same. Full white screen = lot of noise (relatively speaking). But I also had one screen which did that and it turned out the onboard speakers were switched on, even though no input was connected.

^^^ Yup as above. Check the speaker setting on the monitor has gone back to default and it's trying to output sound via the hdmi or dvi cable. (I've had this before with my monitor, and I thought the monitor was on the way out lol).

But... just be certain where the noise is coming from first. (It may very well be the monitor).

My monitor doesn't have speakers.

My TV does this sometimes, its still going :)

I had a HPw2408h which this also happened to and HP replaced it under warranty.
