Keeping in mind I already have a 600 watt OCZ StealthXstream PSU, EVGA 9800GTX, 250GB WD HDD & an X-FI sound card this is all I need to make my first ever build right?

I will later invest in extra/better ram, watercooling and all the bells and whistles at a later date but stock this system should still be rather snappy right? Any thing you guys think I should add to help me out? Cheers! :D

Thats pretty cool, i say go for ddr3! Only reason i can possably think of is its new and interesting.... (no one else is really doing it yet) :D (same goes for the SSD's)

Id also splash out and get your self a new cpu cooler, you'll be getting a black edition cpu (multiplyers are unlocked) so it should be a little simpler to over clock and it will probably need that extra cooling boost.

And also wooo for vista, an excuse to get rid of xp with that horrible green "jungle" theme :p (reminds me of win 95/98 with the silly frog noises....)

Cheers guys, about the AM2+ and DDR2 varient, I've looked into it and there are a few reasons why I think AM3 should be better. First off AM3 in benchmarks is way ahead especially with overclockability (is that even a word). It's somewhat future proofed and the overall temps combined with DD3 are lower + less power consumption, it's all win win. The main thing that puts me off AM2+ is the need to get a bios flash, I will ask OcUK if they can do this for me for free since I will be spending £700!

And yeah pingwing, I'll be getting a nice copper TRUE soon from america :), also going with the AM3 because it clocks higher + less heat!

Any more suggestions? Do you normally need to buy cable ties and screws etc or will it all come in the boxes?

From what I can see there's nothing stopping this from being a far faster and far cooler Intel Core 2 system. I'm just reading the latest CustomPC and the X3s are just a big pile of poop. Slower than the X2s, much hotter, and nowhere near any of the Intel processors for the same price. Why would you want to deliberately cripple your system?!

Hey, Don't know where you have been reading your reviews mate but almost every review I've read shows the X3 to be faster or on par with the 8600 stock and overclocked it can even beat an I7 in some bench's. Im sure some of the guys with 4ghz X3's will back me up hehe :).

Apoligies, I just realised it's the Phenom II X3. The summary of the review for them is...

+ Good stock speed performance, easy overclockable
- Core 2 Duos are much faster when overclocked.

Looks like the OP is going for overclocked, so the Core 2 Duo would still stand as better value.

Ive just upgraded to a 720be and so far am quite impressed, this was from a 4200x2 939 though. I did look at going am3 but in the end settled for the gigabyte am2+ motherboard and ddr2 ram and saved some money. Looking at the benchmarks on various websites the ddr3 made little if no difference from what I saw

No way the X3's are going to reach 4ghz on air, you're a bit hopeful there unless you have some other cooling method.

Slightly more cost but much better overlocked ;p
