Hey, the few missing parts for my new rig should be arriving tomorrow or thursday, so i have started to mod my case in anticipation of their arrival:

Parts marked in green are completed, and i will be adding pics as the mods progress. ENJOY :)

- Replace fan controller blue LED's with white ones.

- Replace HDD and Power LED's with white ones.

- Cut a 92mm fan intake into the bottom of the case, directly blow the fan on the HIS X1900XT.
- Cut a 120mm blowhole in the top of the case.
- Cut and install a side window with a 92mm intake to provide cool air to the front of the tuniq tower

The fan controller im using is a 'Mitron interlink' 3.5" PWM unit with 4-channels, with voltage adjustment from 7-12V. It has a brushed aluminium face that matches the front of the PC7 pretty much perfectly.

The only problem is a hum heard from the fan motors when it is cranked below ~10V. This isn't too intrusive, but is not present when using my favourite fan controller, the sunbeam rheobus.

Here is the disassembled unit. it came apart easily by jsut pulling the black knobs hard whilst giving them a slight wiggle from side to side. Reviewers couldn't work this out, and thus couldn;t get the unit apart

Here you see the x8 white LED's that shine onto the clear plastic knob surround that give the sexy glow.

My awesome soldering :p I had to melt a bit of the PWm box to get to one of the LED contacts. But all still works well.

The front of the re-assembled unit....and it still looks perfect.

Installed in my PC7, and looks far far better than those 'same old' blue LED's

A shot of the unit with NO flash.

Overall, im chuffed with this relatively simple mod which makes this fan controller look different to most, whilst retaining its minimalistic look.

I will complete the rest of the mods tomorrow !

Very nice, just get that ugly Lian Li badge coverd up!

cheers.

Ye that badge is too ugly, il try and pry it off carefully and replace it with a nice aluminium porno badge :D

I've just ordered a sexy Ati badge off the bay, with some rather delicious lady on it.

WOOOT !

Hey adfinni did you get the case since they came back in stock?

Nah, i was going to, but they were out of stock 3 weeks ago when i got mine. So i went with another supplier as i needed it next day. But alas, ive been screwed around by one company, and have had to re-order bits that are here tomorrow.

I can't wait to mod tomorrow. Any ideas on the best glue to use for sticking my rubber edging to my window cutout. I used superglure last time which left some crusty marks :(

Ye it has a crap square grill (no supplied fan). Even if you cut a 92mm circular blowhole there would still be remains of the square grating. Therefore im going all out and cutting a 120mm hole :D

Always has come with one, and you do not need fans in every placement, far from it and most users do not use the 80mm top blowhole.

Hey yewen

I know that a blowhole isn't really needed, but i hate the look of that stupid grill. Plus after seeing seasonic implementing a 60mm fan on the front of the psu to help cooling in that part of the case i thought id just whack a huuuge fan up there :D

Im using the standard 120mm fan that used to sit at the front of the case. It's nice and quiet, with a low airflow so shouldn't be too intrusive. Im putting the more powerful coolermaster fans as the back exhaust, and front intake.

il have pics up tonight of the modded case. But as im going to be testing parts today, il leave the side window until tomorrow.

is the 'white' led mod going to me a continued theme? - white on black, classic

Hell yes it will!!!!

And one of the tuniq put on upside down, with the fan the correct way. Did this as the air will be exhausted from it to the back and upwards (towards PSU fan too). Looks pretty cool too.

Installing windows for a second time, as i flicked the power switch 1/2 way through the last one and really ****** it up

Well im thinking of selling the fan controller as i really miss having a 0-12V like my sunbeam rheobus's. I think im gonna get a black one of them and mod it with white LED's too.

Window panel tomorrow, and im tempted to take the white coolermaster LED fan by the HDD and put it in the window instead of a 92mm panaflow (like at bottom of case), as it's much quieter...... Hmmmm

I think it must be its just that the Tuniq Tower 120 dwarfs it and it looks really small in comparison :p

Correct dwarf, it dwarfs it like i dwarf a smurf : :p

Wooot just updated to the 0614 BIOS and will start overclocking in a bit :D

Yo..

Firstly, sos for the slow updates, but im back at uni now, and am partying very very hard for the next few weeks :D

Im thinking of getting a new case, this one is on the list..... i have one question- the space at the front under the 3.5" external drive holder (with the hdd rack removed) how much is there? because i have a 20cm high heater core that id like to stick on the front 120mm fan, but it looks like it wont fit in that gap

If you could do me a favour and measure that up

16.5cm to *** bottom of the 3.5" cage. But that cage is removable via the front panel and a few screw, which would give a gap of 22.6cm to *** underside of the 5.25" cage.

hoep that helps

edit*** did you buy this from ocuk - does it have the 120mm rear exhaust as well....? the description on the website says that it has 80mm rear exhaust??

Nah i got mine from another place.. Mine has a 120mm fan, and that was guaranteed by the supplier. i asked that question a month or two back, and everyione that posted said that a 120mm rear fan was on their cases ordered from ocuk. I think they just haven't updated the specs on the site.
