Ok so I've not built my own desktop for a few years and a bit out of the loop with "whats hot" and "whats not" but after a day or so of reading reviews/forums I have come up with the following:
Setup1.jpg

The only major thing I think I am missing is a CPU cooler as I hear the stock cooler isn't great and very loud....any suggestions? and do AM2 coolers fit AM3??

Any comments/suggestions are very welcome!! thanks!

Edit * Sorry I should have said this comes to about £660 and that's pretty much my budget so any suggestions please bare this in mind :)

Not qualified to comment on the motherboard but the rest of the spec looks pretty good.

the 7200.12 appear to be a little be divisive at the moment though. Good platter density but fall down in other areas.

Damn your right the RAM is out of stock...I guess ill source elsewhere - whats the CorsairTwinX XMS3, DDR3 PC3-10666 like?

moppy89 what mobo are you going for?

just realised i will need to a wireless card as well grr

Primary use?

Don't know if its possible, but you could download (from other sources) Windows 7 RC & use that then Pre-order the cheaper final edition.

I would have to agree with mynameisjarvis, even if you just pre order windows 7 you can run the RC beta for now. I and many others on here are running it without issue. It's definitely worth while to save some money for better components :D the 4890 would be an excellent choice as well.

Thanks for the info guys....I think I'll pre-order the old Windows 7 and source the RC for the interim!

I'll put the savings towards the 4890 as well :) just hope its not too loud!

How about CPU cooler any suggestions?

Im goin for the ASUS M4785TDM-Evo (I think? Something like that) but Im getting the GTX 260 most probs, so dont need the 8x dual crossfire lanes. If I wanted to crossfire in the future, I would go with the mobo you chose.

I mean, by the time the GTX 260 doesnt cut it for me gaming wise, I'll be considering buying a DX11 GPU, so crossfire is a pointless future improvement thing for me.

Should make for a really nice system mate, though wouldn't the 965 BE be a better choice of processor?

It isn't that much more expensive than the 955, and it is supposed to be better for overclocking to..

As for 3rd party HSF's, the TRUE, Prolimatech Megahalems, or Noctua would all be nice choices for a HSF, and will allow a really nice o/c on your chip to.

And as others have stated, the 4890 is a much better choice, though in saying that, the new HD58** series cards will be available really soon, which support DX11, so if I were you, I would just get something cheap and cheerful and save the rest of the money until they are released and grab one of those instead.

But like I said, this will make for a really decent system.

Well the new ones wont be along till October, so it depends when you need the comp I guess.

And theres absolutely no reason to buy the 965. It hasnt been proven that it can clock higher than the 955, and youre paying a premium for 200mhz jump which can be easily got with 955.
