Picked this up yesterday!

I have wanted an MX5 for so long, but I have to admit being a bit put off by the whole hairdressers car thing.... but one test drive soon sorted that out! Replaced my mk4 golf gti turbo which was 200bhp, so a little change of pace, but so much more character and feel!

I want to do some trackdays and a ring trip next year, I gave up bike racing when I got my house this year, and have an itch to scratch, also my friend has a well sorted civic VTI track car which I hope to match in the future and have some fun with him!!

Plans to turbo/sc but lots to do first!

Had a proper look round it today, its been very well looked after, very recent hood with a glass heated screen, recent plugs leads etc... new panel filter. So that makes my mx5-parts order list a lot shorter!! more money for wheels, suspension and bushes which are all origonal.

The exhaust is a borla?? does anyone know anything about these?

some pics....

yes, sorry its a 1.8!
the exhaust looks really well made, and is not too loud, quite a nice rasp actually!

The girlfriends not a big fan, thinks its girly! lol although the first she knew of it was when I pulled up on our drive so she'll get used to it, she just liked the golf!

Wheels and suspension up first! I thinking dark colored wheels?

Liking these - http://www.tokyo-express.co.uk/buddyclubuk/P-1 Racing II plus/index.htm in gun metal? not sure if the offset is right etc..

I'm thinking anything bigger than 15" will wreck it!

Lol which one? M45 mini charger or 200sx turbo?

dunno, I keep swinging one way then the other!

Nice, yet another MX5. I'm really looking forward to getting behind the wheel of one in the coming months, and I hope to find a suitable purchase.

The plates look so much better square with the Eunos rear plate panel/holder and the front one relocated (shame it leaves holes though).

How much do you notice the power loss? I'm gonna be going from a 200bhp car to an MX5 and I doubt FI would be an option unless I bought one with it.

To be honest, its not as big a climbdown as I was imagining, yea its like 70bhp less, but a good 300kg less, and the sensation of speed is much better! If you couldn't FI, I'd still be happy!! And I don't feel the need to do it in a massive rush!

Awesome, just the feedback I wanted, thanks :)

I wish 3 months would pass already so I can start shopping. If a second hand charger kit came up for sale, I'd probably snap it up. Hoping I can get a pre-charged one too, but I really want to buy cheap and work from there as I like the idea of a build up.

I did have the luck to find a very nice charged one, but that would take all the fun out of it for me. building it is a close second to driving it! :-)

Can someone remind me of that fact when I have scarred knuckles!

Help with wheels!!

http://www.rotashop.co.uk/p1040453.htm (love these, but to black?)
http://www.rotashop.co.uk/p1040454.htm (or is all black better?)
http://www.rotashop.co.uk/p1040392.htm(live them, but heavier than the rest, and not sure I love them...)
http://www.rotashop.co.uk/p1040370.htm (like these to!)

I've done well narrowing it down to 4, but now I'm stuck!
Im 99% decided on 15's, think 16's too big for the car really.

I was sold on toyo T1R's on such a light car, but the GSD 3's are £20 cheaper....

GT3's are a bit played out, the Civic cre love them, same as the slips. Grids might look a bit odd. So if you're not worried about being a trend whore, the GT3's would fit the bill as they have a classic look to them. The two tone slips if you

Also, out of interest, who are you insured with? That's an attractive premium cost.

Strangely churchill!! I don't know what the mx5 cost is, but there was no increase from the golf and I have 5 months of policy left. they didn't care it was an import either strangely, I made her triple check and send it me in writing to be sure!!

It was a well haggled price earlier in the year when insuring the golf, I left it with them at £480 and they rang me back with £418 I think it was, started at well over £500. I also do have a pretty good post code.

On the wheel front I really like the slipstreams (with the silver lip)! The GT3 is a little bit more classic though, I think I have narrowed it down to those two anyway...... at the moment the slips win because they are lighter! lol

I'm on mx5nutz and thanks for the link..

I'm with Churchill for my CTR and they refuse to insure an import till I'm 25! (I'm 24). Ugh, will be calling them to give some earache as limiting me to UK cars is such a hassle. I'm tempted to cancel it but I ca't be bothered paying outright for insurance again when it costs me £1200 to £1500 with no points and 3 years no claims.

Well I'm not 25 ( I'm 23) and they are insuring my import, I have it in writing and she also asked a colleague as I didn't believe her!
