Yay!!

Well I'm so excited

This morning I went out to an OcUK competitor for a USB hub, but on the way, saw a rather nice car and decided to stop and have a look

I loved it as soon as I saw it, it wasn't what I was originally saving for but I just loved it, asked for a test drive and again, was just so impressed. Although I'm only going from a 1.3 Fiesta, it was still very impressive and just felt effortless getting up to speed

So I sat down, toyed with the idea, and then thought, you know what, I'm having this car

So Monday I pick up this..

A BMW 120d

Now I know I'll probably get slated for it, but I absolutely love it, and remember, I've only been driving a year so didn't want anything so fast I'll kill myself in it. This for me is just right I think

Are there anythings I should know about owning one? Obviously because it was an impulse buy, I've not had much time to research :p

Monday is so far away! :(

I paid 9k for it, which looking at AutoTrader and Pistonheads doesn't seem all that bad

It's a 2005 model

I know impulse buying is always a bad thing, but that's just how I've always been, I just hope this isn't the purchase I live to regret

Can I ask why you hate them newman?

EDIT - Fox, I know I know, but I have wanted a BMW for yonks. I did actually want a 3 series, but started leaning towards the 1 series because of insurance. So it's not like I didn't even have the thought of buying one in mind before I looked at it

Comfort pack, rain sensor, auto-headlights, climate control, cruise control, iPod connection, bluetooth

By the way some of those things are probably standard but I don't know which

So when someone asks you "what made you buy the car?" you're only response will be "Because i've wanted a BMW for yonks and i drove past one and wanted it"?

:(

Unfortunately yes, but then I could have looked for months and still ended up buying this first car.

I know I was silly, but at the end of the day, I wanted one, it wasn't too overpriced (if at all from what I can see looking around), it felt right driving it so I got it

By the way the Fiesta isn't the only car I've ever driven :p

Out of interest which other BMW's had you driven previously?

Oh sorry, I meant I've driven other cars other than my Fiesta, but this is my first BMW

Thanks Hutchy - My first positive comment yet haha :p

Well by all means, I can still cancel, I've not got the keys, and I can get the deposit back

But I don't want to, I'm happy with it, it might not be the best for the price I paid, but it's a model I've been looking at for a while, ok I did with 3 series as well and didn't actually drive any or see any. But, I think I've made the right choice, if not, well it's a very expensive lesson learnt and I will know for next time

But in the mean time, can not one of you miserable sods not be at least a little bit happy for me! :p

I'll look into that Fox, is it really that common then? Cheers for the heads up

I've been looking since I got home Janesy, just to try and make myself feel better/worse about the price, and it really does seem I got a good deal, they seem to be anything from 9 upto 11k. A few 6/7's but then I'm wondering why they are so cheap

I felt so good about all this until I posted on here, I knew I shouldn't have done it! haha

By the way, it was the 118d that you guys said has shocking performance wasn't it? Or is that the 120d as well?:p

It's a 2005 with 50k miles on it

The condition is superb, not a single scratch or mark on it, I was pretty impressed

Oh believe me, if in a few months I hate it, and I regret it, I'll admit it

I just hope that isn't the case. As bad as this sounds, but because it's only my second car I've owned and about the 5th car I've ever driven since passing my test, I'm guessing it's going to be pretty hard for me to not be impressed compared to the Fiesta. That is definitely not a reason to justify the purchase, but at the same time, I'm just saying, I think I'll love it regardless

That's a nice car Fox, cheers for that! You git! ha I must admit though, I do prefer the interior of my car, but that certainly doesn't make me regret my purchase which is good!

Just out of interest though guys, where would be the best place to look for better Alloys, as I must admit they are the only thing about the car that don't truly grab me

So I've had the car since Monday 4pm

Driven 300 miles, and have to say, I absolutely love it! It's better than I ever expected it to be

My first surprise was unlocking it at night and seeing the handles get lit up, sounds small and silly I know, but it's little touches like that that make me think "Wow I love this car". It has a few gadgets in it, Auto headlights, Rain sensor, parking sensors, professional sound system, climate control, iPod connection, auto dimming mirrors, which have all been lovely, especially the auto headlights, and even more so the rain sensor, especially in this weather

Performance wise, now I know what I'm about to say will make people cringe, but remember this is a year old drivers opinions, but it's fantastic. Previously, the only cars I would call "nippy" that I have driven up until now, are a Seat Ibiza FR 1.9, a Mini Cooper S "John Works" and an old Mercedes saloon, can't remember the name. But this just feels so nice. The feeling of putting your foot down and then at 2.5k revs, it just kicks in, I just won't get bored of that. Obviously compared to my Fiesta, where you put your foot down and the engine gets louder but the speed remains the same. But I keep having to slow myself down as it's just so easy getting to 100, the engine is just so quiet you wouldn't know you're going that fast

Thrashed it round some B roads and it's really fun to drive, the handling is great. Currently running on run flats so it's a firmer ride than normal I'm guessing, but it still feels so smooth and in corners it's a lot of fun.

It has the pre-facelift proper powersteering so it's the only real perk of having the older model but it is so responsive, for the first few hours almost a bit too responsive.

Seem to be getting around 38-41MPG at the moment, which isn't bad for a car that's been driven hard for 2 days.

But I just want to get in it and keep driving, everytime I sit in it I smile, and everytime I press that 'Start' button, I giggle like a little kid. It's just such a good car to me and as of right now, I'm so glad I made the impulse buy

It's going into Superchips this weekend too for a remap :) woop woop! Which will bring it up to 200BHP so hopefully it gives it a little more oomph

Yeah don't I know it, I would say the acceleration "hits you" a lot more in my car than what I experienced in the Mini, but yeah the Mini was definitely quicker

The girlfriend just bought one as well :(

The shame

Will do mate, I'm off to take some snaps tomorrow, will get some photos up

Polished off another 70 miles tonight, just such a joy to drive!

My new car is.......

DEAD!! No life in it what so ever!

So a week after having it, it's in the garage!

And as a replacement, their so called 'Courtesy Car', I'm driving around an 'S' reg Golf that has no 3rd gear, a clutch that is about to die, and in first gear, I have to get to 5k revs before it even moves

My mood this morning is not good to say the least

Well when I went to start it a few times over the weekend, the ABS lights would stay on for 30 seconds or so. Bit weird I thought

But then this morning, when I put the key fob in, I noticed all the counters had reset, the time and date had reset, again, bit weird. Pushed the start button, tried to start, then dead. Pressed it again, this time nothing except what could only be described a grinding noise. Tried one more time, this time, nothing at all, dead

:(

EDIT - Thanks Fox :p I thought these experiences would take a little more than a week
