My new CV

Having your name in big letters on the side looks a bit over the top.
you think its too big then? the idea was so that when they are flicking through a pile to find a particular CV it stands out... might take it down a size or two though.

thanks for your input. i was in two minds over going for this format or going with a more conventional layout. Do you really think its hard to read? i admit it is a bit of a waste of space, especially as it is reapeated on the second page. i might try a more conventional layout and see what its like.

i feel its important to get this right! thats why im starting quite early.

This will be for summer placements between my 3rd and 4th year, but would also stand for the basis for graduate jobs at the end of my 4th year.

with regards to the uni work, i would assume that any serious employer would know what was required to get this degree? i admit it is a little thin and needs work, but it is a first draft. If i put in every thing i did then that would take up pages, i guess there is a compromise somewhere.

any more input? especially someone within the engineering area?

film and socialising have already gone!

my main engineering experiance was supposed to be a work placement at AWE, but i didnt get security clearance in time. hoping to work at xmas, so will see how that goes.

ive scrapped the side bar, i think it would be good for a "arts & Design" CV as its more creative, but not so "precise" (if thats the right word) for an engineering CV.

i shall post up the next draft, once ive compleated it.

also, should references really be left out, but available on request? ive heard so much conflicting advice on this matter!

ive taken on some of the advice and my new CV is almost ready.

ive taken the references out for now, but im tempted to leave one of them in. he is my tutor and head of department. he is regarded as the dogs ******** wrt to chem eng so might be worth having his name there? or is that just a bit cheaky?

thanks again everyone for your input! this is very helpful, im glad i did this - i wasnt going to bother...

anyway Second Draft of CV

what you think?

EDIT: im starting to think that i should cut down my GCSEs further and just say 10 GCSE graded A* to B??

just did it PDF for the forums, would either print and post or send a word doc.

is that the old layout or the new layout you dont like? what about it dont you like? (if its the new one)

im blocking off the website as its a reletivly small company and the web hosting prob wont be up to the who of OcUK decending on it... and it would seriously skew the web stats!!

thanks for your input mattx2, i was just about to scrap the "Activities and Interests" section as i feel its a bit bloated. (after reading comments here and a bit of googling!)

you mind if i can have a look at your CV? if not then dont worry. email etc in sig/trust
