My new i7 build

Hi guys,

Im new to the overclockers forum but i thought i'd join and read your guys opinions on the latest hardware, overclocking tips, etc. Ive been out of the game for some time you may say - currently running an Athlon XP2500 with 1GB PC3200 ram and a Radeon 9000pro so yeah you guessed it about 6 years lmao!!

I'm in the middle of building a new i7 core machine, i currently have sat next to me a 920 DO i7, asus rampage 2 extreme mobo, 6GB Corsair XMS and a Coolermaster V10 to cool the cpu. To be honest im almost in tears considering the amount of money i spent on that and you lads say its a poor performer lol!

Next week im buying the other components to go along with the bits i've already bought. Was thinking of the following, what you guys think?

ATI 5870
Corsair Obsidian 800D
Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB SATA-II (for storage)
Intel X25-M Mainstream 80GB (for os and games)
Tagan PipeRock TG1100-BZ 1100w
Sony Optiarc DRU-870S 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter

I was thinking of perhaps buying two 5870s but im a little unsure - do you think it would be best to just save a little more and buy a 5970?

Also i'm looking to overclock the CPU to 4Ghz at least - What temps do you think i'll be looking at?

One 5870 will be probably fine for now, unless you're gaming at 2560x1600 or using eyefinity. Supply seems to be picking up a bit now so you should be able to get another with relative ease if needs be.

Samsung F3 always gets suggests for HDD, I've got one based on recommendations from here and am very pleased with it.

No point getting that PSU, just with a Corsair HX850 as that'll be fine for any of the GPU setups you have specified.
