Well, after a few months of thinking it over I've got myself an iMac. My PC threw in the towel recently and it seemed like a good excuse to spend some money.

I've got a 20", 2.4 Ghz, 320Gb HDD and 1Gb RAM. I've also bought a HDD caddy which will be housing a 320GB drive and a WD Passport 250GB portable drive. The extra RAM will be on its way soon, (I figured using the Mac for a bit would be good as when I get my 2 or 4 GB sticks it will be like a new toy again :p)

The Mac was £950 with Office 2004 (which I'm sure you can upgrade to 2008 for free). It worked out a £20 more than you would pay with HE discount, but what can I say, I'm an impatient, impulsive guy :D

First impressions are very good, I've got my right click and finding OSX very easy to use. I'm a bit unsure about uninstalling programs but I'm sure I saw a guide on here recently about that.

Now, essential apps, what do I need?

EDIT:
Ok, now I have questions.
1) How do I format an external drive?
no doubt more to come...

Excellent fella, Welcome to the fold! :D

Just upgraded to 4GB from 2GB, although I didnt get the boost I was thinking off. But still it will help more behind the scenes when playing my games!.

Enjoy, and pics are needed :p

(cos we are nosey)

Install the Perian and Flip4Mac addons for Quicktime so that it can play all your video formats.

The Unarchiver addon for Finder (the file manager) will decompress all your compressed files.

Transmission is a good lightweight bit torrent client.

Or just get VLC which will play pretty much anything, tis what I use anyway.

I've also found that although transmission is small and simple, it seems to download slower than Azureus, don't know if anyone else has experienced this?

Use the older 0.82 build.. all the others have borked the download speeds in my experience.

At least when I tried 0.96 I got 50% of my usual speed from Torrent Leech (private member), then downloaded 0.82 and it went to my usual full speed.
