My new-ish PS3 has developed an annoying rattle...

Evening chaps,

My relatively new 80Gb PS3 (around 5-6 months old) has developed a rather nasty rattle when a disk spins up. It has started in the last week or so out of the blue, it hasn't been moved or jolted, it just happened. It has no problem reading disks or playing anything. The rattle is very noticeable when trying to watch a DVD or play a game and all round rather annoying.

Is this a sign my bluray drive is on its way out? Would Sony repair a rattling PS3 even though other than that it's working fine?

i think they just get worn, the fact that you cant install games (except a few) is utterly shocking after the ps2 problems

Sure it's not the fan rattling when it spins up? Replaced my ps3 after a week with the retailer I purchased it from due to the fan rattling. Replacement is now 7 months old and not had the same problem.

Which few are these? Installing a full BD sized game would take hours. The PS3 doesn't install full games, its just installs a few gigs for caching purposes.

Definitely not a fan, it only happens when a disk spins up.

I had that with my previous PS3, a small piece of Lego under the front solved it (no kidding)
