Today i recieved my brand spanking new MacBook Pro, so far absolutely loving it, brilliant. Just one problem i seem to be missing some hard-drive spaceage. The capacity says its 92 GB which is a little off as its meant to be 100 GB. But it says i have 74 GB available. I haven't installed anything that could be making that much difference to the space so what the hell could it be :~ , any help much appreciated :)

92GB seems about right, its the way that harddrives are advertised in size that is wrong. I read a while back that they wanted to change it but nothing has happened.

ilife uses about 10GB of space I believe and the additional languages with OS X take up a lot of space.

I'm glad your getting on well, what size did you go for? EDIT: 15 or 17, just read that back and it didn't make much sence sorry.

They have been getting great reviews! You gonna post up some pics :D

so far im absolutely loving it, my first laptop and new computer in a while. My desktop is about 4 years old :) and a pc. Ive got the 15" model with 256 gfx and single stick of gig ram. Might have to purchase some when i get a bit of dosh haha. Haven't exactly done much with it yet but from the standard tinkering and general usage this machine is just a beauty. When i get to my mums going to install WoW and see how that runs then maybe a bit of dual bootage and bf2 might be done ;D. Oh and getting it out of the box was just sexual hahaha

i would google and download a program called delocaliser (sp?) and it removes all the extra languages that you dont use etc. gave me about an extra 3gb on my iBook :D

OS X does use up a lot of space due to having tonnes and tonnes or drivers built in amongst other things. I be a little weary of using delocaliser, I don't think it's been updated for a long time so it might be a bit dodgy with the newer macs. Personally, I wouldn't bother deleting anything unless I actually needed the space. I know it can be tempting to anally remove absolutely everything you think you might not need but there's not really all that much point. After 6 months or a year it might be worth giving it a little clean though, I know some of the programs' (iPhoto) caches can get a little bulky.

I removed a load of printer drivers :) That free'd up a little bit of space, but not much really.

Hey zhx,

Nice laptop!

Any issues with it so far? Does it get hot very quickly underneath, around the speakers and the hinge?

Does the screen/cpu make a weird whine/buzzing noise?

These are known issues with the MBP and I was wondering if they have been sorted out.

Thanks,

I had heard that 2gb is ment to be crazy performance in the macbook pros, was planning on the 1gig like yourself as they aren't the cheapest things on the market

I'm glad your getting on well with it :D I'm sure you will have plenty of fun with it, you deffo gotta try the dual bootage! I think that was such a good move by mac!!

By the way I know your sexual feeling, the mac mini is the same! I enjoyed it so much I still have the box :D haha

haha yeah but , well , it is :)

on a side note does any one know how to "alt tab" on a mac, was playing wow last night and needed to access itunes but i couldnt work out how for the love of me, im sure there must be a way

Press F9.. It will tile a mini picture of each application and you can choose which you want.

Si

Apple+Tab is the same as Alt+Tab in Windows. Not sure if it works from games though, as i don't have any on my Mac!

To find some of the missing 18GB get out the Install Disks, put disk 1 in the drive and reboot, hold down the C key at the chime. Choose erase and install. De-select all the crap (printer drivers, trial software etc,.), I was able to get the footprint down from over 16GB to just under 10GB on my iMac last week.

I've had my MacBook Pro 2.16Ghz since the begining of April, have so far had a motherboard fail (after 7 days), a left I/O (USB) port fail on week 4, and two weeks ago the CPU buz appeared. I just took delivery of a replacement unit yesterday, but some numpty ordered it with the wrong HDD, so now I'm waiting for a courier to collect it so it can be fitted with the correct drive

This has cost me a serious amount of money as I've had this notebook now for 2 and a half months and have been without it for 4 weeks of that time!!

The new unit also has the dreaded CPU buzz
