My current system is getting kind of sluggish now with some of the new games so i think its time for me to take the plunge and do an upgrade/ New system

GFX Card: 8800gt

Would be very grateful if people could suggest a build for around the £800 although if i could spec one for £600 would be good. Is it worth getting future proof with dd3 ram or should i do an 8gb job with ddr2?

I am open to overclocking (only ever done 1 rig sucessfully stable :p )

The reccomended option was from a friend who i think was just being random and expensive :)

Just a note if you really HAVE to get a nvidia 780/790 board I would advise getting the evga for the win editions, it seems that a lot of people have problems with the regular versions (evga and non evga boards). The evga for the win editions are apparently more stable.If not you could always go get an intel X48 motherboard :P
 
firstly x48 is pointless unless he has plans to get rid of the 8800GT and go ati and crossfire in the future, if SLi or crossfire isnt even going to be considered, i would get a p45 chipset based MB.

to save on costs, i would get ddr2 - pc2-8500 stuff

i would also add a 3rd party cpu cooler unless you already have a good compatible one
 
The parts that are listed there where reccomened by a friend of a friend so i do not know why he chose them. I know ddr3 is not needed currently but he said that it would be more "future proof"

as for mobo... i dont have a clue, kind of lost touch since the socket 939 days.
 
DDR3 only more future proof if your planning to upgrade often, however looking at your previous PC ,i say when you upgrade this new PC, there will be better or cheaper ddr3 ram out due to refined manufacturing processes or more research and development

Listen to this man. It makes sense.

Another thing i would change is ditch the quad for a E8400/E8500. There are not many games that make use of a quad and as your main use is gaming it would be a waste of time and money.

Going by how long he keeps his PC for I would go with the Quad being the best chip over the lifespan of the system.

Will be cheaper, faster and because of that you have cash left over for other bits and bobs, maybe the CPU cooler or a new hard drive even.

The hiper osiris is a much better looking case than the 1200 and is owned by less people, really would be good if more people started to use different cases to the 1200 as so boring now.
