Some of you may have seen my previous thread, where I had begrudlingly retunrned my Focus ST and gotten a nice sensible Accord (which im loving btw:eek:).To make up for this sadness, today I went to pick up my new weekend toy.

I present you....

Its a 1995 UK spec MX5, its the 1.8, It comes with tax and test and it is completely rot free.Engine has done a genuine 95k.I went down to Sevenoaks to pick it up earlier today and it pretty much drove perfectly. The only problem was my road tax,the bloody thing flew off as the holder was only loosley fixed! Getting used to no power steering was fun mind:p

It will need a new boot lid as the old one has a dent in it, the roof looks good, apart from one tiny bit by the window which needs looking at, and the plastic window is 'cloudy'.It also has a clunking coming from the rear passenger side, im guessing its a bush or droplink gone. The paint will also need a good polish/wax, but the body is scratch and dent free (apart from the boot).

Best bit about this car...its cost me a paltry £300.Awesome:p

Well tbh, Ive been looking at projects for a while and even ropey MX5's with knackered engines have been going for near double what I paid.

Ive been suprised with how revvy this engine is, for something with a mere 130 ish horsies, it dont half motor!

Great deal, where did you find that?!

A guy on one of the audio forums I visit had on ebay and linked to it.I made an offer and the rest is history, basically the guy had a very very light prang (hence the dented bootlid) and as he was 3 rd party, he couldnt be bothered to get it fixed. It was just one of those once in a blue moon bargains tbh.

THREE HUNDRED POUNDS!??!!

*falls over*

*gets back up again*

Blimey nora. You got a bit of a bargain there! Nice. :D They make great "toys" :) Any plans for it so far?

Im gonna get it cleaned up and make sure its pukka before I start making big plans. Its my 1st RWD car so I want to learn how to drive it before I start thinking about power.

What are the basic mods I should be looking at? (ie cheap and effective:p)

14 degre.... Oh you've got a 1.8

For a start, just make sure it's nicely serviced with clean oil, filters, plugs, leads etc. You'd be surprised how much of a difference it makes. My engine has definitely loosened up since I've owned it and driven it "properly", too, as well as doing the above things. Fix the clonking (like you said, most probably a drop link - 5 minute job), hoon it and enjoy / learn to drive it :)

Lol saved me quoting it!

£300 is just crazy low for that :| Well done!

The lack of power steering should be easy to adjust to, being light and RWD. MX-5's with PAS have quite a weighty feel anyway for better steering feedback.

White is actually a sought after colour among enthusiasts, when kept clean and some small minor changes it can look very good. Also looks more like an eunos rather than UK model to me.

There's a plastic polish for the cloudy rear window, called Renovo or similar I think.

£300!?

How did you find this car?

I'm on the hunt for an MX5 and a fixer-er-upper at that cost would be ideal! If you get bored of it by end of october, let me know.

Haha, please read threads thoroughly people ;)

At work and it's monday morning. Typed it despite reading how he got it anyway... :o :(

I spent all weekend looking for a 1.8 MX5 to get a drive in. Sucks with dealers selling cars 53 plate or later these days.
