my new usb flash drive

Hi there,

Why does my new kingston 4gb usb drive crash my desktop pc everytime I insert it into my usb drive?

It doesnt do that on my laptop?

Any ideas with solutions would be appreciated

Have you the correct drivers installed? If I remember my days with XP I still had to install the motherboard stuff.

windows vista automatically installed them for me...

how can i remove the drivers it installed for me?

Have you disabled Autorun?, if not, try holding SHIFT down when you insert the memory stick to bypass Autorun, if it doesn't crash then something in the Autorun mechanism is foobed.

(hold shift - insert memory stick - wait 10 seconds - release shift)

Install them anyway, they should be on your motherboard cd / website.

just to clarify im talking about drivers for the usb flash drive not motherboard drivers

just tried holding the shift key down and received the below error:-

it doesnt crash when I insert the pen drive

instead when i click on my computer it then crashes there which results in all my icons disappearing from my desktop and the only way I can resolve it is if I do a hard reboot

i fixed it

booted in safe mode, then removed the driver for the usb drive that windows auto installed the first time

then rebooted the pc again and inserted the flash drive and this time windows installed the drivers once again but this time it worked and my does nt crash my pc..

Ah glad to see that worked. Were you using VIsta or XP?
