Hello there..
I have just uploaded a draft web site design for my self and a few friends.

We will be sharing the space given to me by NTL which currently stands at 55MB.

I would like feed back from you lot..

I have only done this single page with a few basic paragraphs explaining a few things, nothing more.. I would like you to tell me if the layout and idea that I have is ok for a website. I am new to all this and I welcome any crit` you guys throw at me.

I am no good at making buttons banners etc. so that why I am using tables and eventualy having lonks in the cells..

Any way fire at will........:)

I know from personal experience that it's difficult to start doing this stuff, but, and you asked for honest opinion ... I would immediately click away from your site. It reminds me of sites from the early 90's when having a background and a few headings would do the trick.

Sorry, old sport, but that is honest opinion.

Thanks for the reply..

I see what you are saying there.. But like i said in my OP its the layout that I would like help on. Ideas are welcome af course.

A bit of input woudlnt go a miss.
eg. Instead of having the text in boxes why not have them with out but break up differnet para graphs with lines or little pic`s etc..

Thats the sort of help im after..

Still, thanks for your honest opinion

Hi there

To me, i think the text boxes are too wide. They cover the whole screen on my monitor, but i think they could be shrunk down a little bit :)

design wise I would agree with blade007.

Also on a 24" screen your box's containing the text stretch's accross the full width of the screen which can make long paragraphs difficult to follow especialy when there spread over multiple lines. Try and set a width to the overall site or even the text areas to prevent the text becoming stretched out too far.

Hey,

First thing I would do is change the background as for me it's far too distracting. I usually stick to plain colours especially when the layout is made to emphasise a clean and simplistic look.

I think more could be done with the banner, doesn't need to be anything particulaly fancy but something to make it stand out perhaps. I'd probably use alternate colours for the tabs and post box headers even if its just a slight change of shade maybe.

I'd tweak a few other things but apart from that the basic layout and design is a good start.

Hope this helps :)

yes, sorry to say again, however the yellow is just an awful colour on the background aswell, they clash very much therefore please look into colours again ;)

Centralise it all... i mean your entire site.. it can still be quite wide, but put it in the middle..

Honestly.. how many sites do you see today that fit across the entire screen..

Forget forums though eh?

How about using a pre made template, there's plenty around at places like OSWD, or ones like this that I've found which seem perticularly effective, downloading their code and having a play around is quite an effective way of learning the basics, even if you don't use them, they will certainly give you a few ideas.

Your best bet would to be.. PLace it all into a larger table. set that table to 600px wide max and have it centerd.. i would use a site like . http://colourlovers.com/ to get a colour pallet. and just messabout the with colours till you find a arangement to suit. colours tend to work best .... forexample.. would be .. dark.. then the maintable colour ontop of that would be light. then the header boxes ontop of the lighter colour would be a mid colour . then have your text light . this can work vise versa. a plan tables site can work if the colours are correctly placed.

craig.

It is like when i first started webdesign... ive looked at the html and i was very much into tables etc. I would suggest you start from scratch and google 'css'. Not that my sites are good, but i feel they have improved considerably from when i was using tables. Feel free to look at my code HERE
